Sorry if this is a little TMI, but I'm not sure what caused this and don't know how to treat it. Cameron has been screaming off and on for a couple of days. After trying this and that we eventually narrowed it down to something to do with his diaper. He does not have a diaper rash so we figured maybe the diapers were being put on too tight. We began loosening them and he still kept screaming. Well, today I was changing his diaper and pulled the skin back around his little dinker. It was very, very red and raw. It almost looked like a cut. I didn't know what to do about it so I put some diaper rash ointment on it and put his diaper back on.

Have any of your little guys ever had something like this? What did you do to treat it? Also, I will clean under their "package" and in the creases, but I don't usually pull the skin back and clean around the top. Is that something you do with every diaper change?

I feel absolutely horrible for the little guy he has been dealing with this pain for days and I never thought to look there. :(

Don't feel bad! I didn't do that for a bit either, until one day I found a ton of "fuzz" and realized I wasn't cleaning that area enough. If it's really red and raw and seems to be bothering him, you might want to see your pedi. It could be an infection, especially if they are uncircumsized. Mine are circumsized, so there isn't a whole lot of skin there. But I do wipe that area at most diaper changes, and I clean it during baths.

If he is circumsized, the skin can actually reattach itself there, and it has to be unattached by pulling it off. It sounds like it is just raw from being moist. I would pull it back and put vaseline on it at every diaper change.

Every night when they are bathed I make sure that it is clean and then I pull the skin down and apply vaseline on the winkee and the rest of the package, as well as, their creases and bottom. We have yet to ever have a diaper rash by using the vaseline nor has his skin reattached at the ***** area.

Thank you so much girls! I think you guys may be right, when I looked at it again after reading the posts it definitely looks as though the skin had reattached and then was pulled apart. OUCH! I'm going to start putting vaseline on them now. I feel like such a doofus for not knowing this. Thanks again!

Ditto. I do usually try and clean it at every diaper change. Even though mine were circumsized, it still gets dirty around the tip of it.

Doesn't hurt to put vaseline on it after bath to protect it from diaper mess.

Remember NOT to retract if you boy(s) are not circumcised. This could cause pain and adhesions.

Ok, I'm going to admit that I didn't know you're supposed to pull that skin back??? I guess after reading all the info on non-circ'ed boys, I've been afraid to pull on any skin around their little parts! I've noticed during a bath or diaper change, they've gotten diaper cream up under there, but I've been too afraid to really "scrub" that area since it requires pulling the skin back! Wow... the things I learn. Thanks for the heads up Stacy! :good:

My boys are circumsized and I was putting vaseline on them while it was healing, but I didn't think I had to anymore after it healed. You learn something new every day.

Yep, they can get rashes on their little boy parts. I also make sure to pull it back during each diaper change and give it a quick wipe and then reapply cream. Just an FYI, depending on your son's build you might have to do this for awhile. Dave still has occasional problems with his parts. There's nothing quite like applying diaper rash cream to a 7 yo. :icon_eek:

I try to remember to push it back in the tub and stuff and when changing diapers to clean that area. I also use lots of powder w/ cornstarch it's getting really hot here and it can't be comfortable with a sweaty diaper on and least the powder helps with the sweat.

If the circumcision left too much skin your son could have adhesion spots that might require the circ to be redone... we had to redo my son's at 18 mos. He would scream at every diaper change, grab his weebo , and yell "NO!!!!!!!!" and start crying. He never did that again after we got the problem fixed. If paying more attention to that area doesn't fix his pain, look into that
