Okay the boys are 13 months old and they have discovered the joy of their built in "boy toys". For a couple of months they have been content to just feel around a bit when I change their diapers. Most of the day we just spend in diapers and T shirts. Well not too long ago they began taking their diapers off for a little extra play time. I started putting the diapers on backwards to keep them from getting to the tape, but they can now manage to get them off backwards as well and if it proves difficult, they team up and help each other. I guess I could put shorts on them, but it's just so easy to grab them up and change a diaper without having to take off the shorts. Any sure fired way of keeping the diapers on for very determined little boys who like to "play". I had girls so I never had this problem until grandsons.

Well, if you dont want to put on shorts, I have no ideas for you. I use to duct tape mine... But taht was after they learned to undress. :)

You could keep them in onesies that snap at the crotch? Those would still be convenient for diaper changes....

I'm laughing, because I have friends who did backwards diapers, covered with backwards one-piece zippered sleepers with the zippers duct-taped, and their kids STILL managed to wriggle out of them sometimes. LOL!

It's not just boys who do this....plenty of girls discover early that their parts are fun. Oh, and there's the whole let's-play-with-poop phase...

I second the onsies idea... I don't think my boys seriously discovered their "toys" until they were potty trained... Of course in the tub, but they didn't go searching for them;)

onesies are my best friend these days! it seems if the diaper is covered neither of them bother with it much (and my daughter likes playing with her parts just as much!)

It never occurred to me to try to stop it . . . it never bothered me much (and yes, both with DS and DD). Now that they're mostly potty trained it mostly happens while sitting on the potty.

We went to visit a farm this winter and the kids got to try milking a cow. Later on DS was sitting on the potty playing with himself and I asked him what he was doing. He said "I'm just milking myself".

I'm hoping that by not making a big deal out of it he'll eventually stop and not have any hangups about it.

It's not the playing that bothers me - it's the diaper removal so they can play. For one thing sure as shooting when they remove those diapers they're going to start the "water works" or "Poop factory". They'll shred the diaper and there's no way to use it so we're wasting a perfectly good pamper and with two and another on the way diapers are a big ticket item on our grocery bill. I pay around $30.00 a week for diapers and have no idea how much my daughter spends for her house but I'm sure it's a lot. I just want to keep the diapers on until they've been appropriately used. I don't make a big deal about the playing, but it's the playing that has them removing the diapers.

I understand. Believe me, I understand. If only you could have seen our livingroom carpet some days... and the steamer wasn't put away for months. Anyway, yes, onesies all day every day until they learn to unsnap them. Once they learn to unsnap, well, better have a decent steamer on hand and work that potty training magic.

Definitely onesies. I had my guys in onesies until I couldn't stretch them any longer.
