My friend had an her 2nd U/S done yesterday. She worked with and RE. At her 1st appt there was one sac, but when she went back today there were 2, the second sac was measuring 10 days behind....the 1st had a heartbeat the second only had lines at his point. Has this happened to anyone else or is this a vanishing twin? Thank you

How far along is your friend? There are many times when one baby is measuring behind and the heartbeat is only seen for one baby and at the next appointment both babies are perfect. Knowing what stage she is at would be helpful.

I watched a special on conceiving twins and they said that one possibility is for 1 egg to be fertilized and a week later a second egg drops and gets fertilized. Could this be a possibility for your friend? I wouldn't be too concerned yet. It is REALLY hard to get a reading on a heartbeat at that early of a gestation. They could only find one heartbeat at my first appt. when I was 10 weeks pregnant, so, it's not uncommon. [IMG]
