I am really curious to know ....

What week are you in with your pregnancy and how much weight have you lost/gained?

Or if you've already given birth, what was your total weight gain?

The reason I am asking is because of the fact that I see a lot of early twin PG moms with concerns about their weight gain. I am at 25w tomorrow and according to my scale a few days ago, I've gained 15 lbs since I found out I was PG on 10/31. I had gained at least double that this far into my first pregnancy.

But it's not just that - I've lost 1 lb in the past two weeks and .... well, let's just say I eat plenty of fat and calories. These little girls have been sucking the fat right off my bones. Hey, I'm totally cool with that - they are measuring well and I am no longer going to complain.

But ultimately, I'd like to know the stats for those of you so far and those who've BTDT.

My OB only gained 20 lbs during her twin PG but she has a small frame, average height, and I know she is super active.

I will know tomorrow the latest… but a week and half ago I had gained 45 (I’m 33 w)… which was at least 20 less then I had gained with my singleton at the same point… as long as I keep under what I weighed with him AND the twins are doing good, I’m fine… I gained 80 total with my singleton, went from 120 to 200 (and he was a month early) but it fell off fast… so I’m hoping the same goes this time too

It was interesting I put on the most out of anyone I know (even family) but I was the only one to lose it ALL quick (with little effort…. It kind of melted off)… my mom never lost it all, neither did my sister and they only gained 30 pounds top with their singletons…

I'm a big believer in Dr. Barbara Luke's program to gain as much weight as possible with a twin pregnancy. I started out 40 pounds overweight so I didn't feel the need to gain the full 40-50 pounds she suggests. I'm 28 weeks and I've gained 27 pounds so far. I eat as much as I can and don't shy away from high fat foods as long as they have protein too. I have no appetite and have to make myself eat.

I'm 32 weeks and at my last appt I had gained 17 lbs. I don't shy away from eating high fat foods as long as they have protein but I just don't seem to put on much weight.
With my DS I had gained 20 lbs at this point.

I firmly believe that your body will gain what it needs to as long don't eat to one extreme or the other.

I gained 50lbs by the time I delivered my two at 39 weeks. {14lbs of that was baby} My weight lose/gain was never much of a concern to the doctors. I seemed to go in spurts. At the beginning I gained ALOT quickly, then stopped for a while, then around 30 weeks started gaining again. :pardon: I think as long as you are eating and aren't' losing alot {and your doctor doesn't seem concerned} you should be okay.

I started out at 116, and I'm now at 150, at my visit to the OB this week. I'm 30 weeks, and have gained 34 lbs thus far.
After reading the Dr Luke book, I gave myself a 'goal weight gain' of 40 lbs for this PG, since I'm 5 foot. I wanted the babies to be as healthy as possible. I'll worry about getting it off later.

For the record, I gained 44 lbs with DD#1 (LOTS of junk food), and she weighed 7 lb, 15 oz.
I gained 27 lbs with DD#2 (MUCH better diet!) and she weighed 8lb, 1 oz.

I am 5'5" 200lbs to start. I gained 24 lbs and was eating everything not nailed down and 3 protein shakes a day to gain weight. Due to m/s I didn't start gaining until week 18 and was induced at 36 weeks. No one was ever concerned about my weight because the babies kept growing and I had no other problems g/d or swelling etc. I think they took in most of the calories.Oh and I wasn't active at all. I didn't want to burn any calories so I stopped working and laid around with the exception of doctor appointments. With my first singleton (41 weeks 7 lbs 1 oz.) I gained over 40 lbs and that was in addition to losing in the beginning with m/s. Never lost that weight and stayed at 180 for years. Right before the twin pregnancy I put on 20 lbs taking prometrium for a m/c. When I left the hospital I had lost the 24lbs but still had that 20 prometrium pounds. Got pregnant again and at 21 weeks with one I'm up about 10 or so lbs. No rhyme or reason to weight gain for me. Oh and with that 24 lbs weight gain my babies were 5.5 lbs and 4 lbs at 36 weeks and came home from the hospital with us healthy as can be.

Due to bad morning sickness, I lost about 13lbs during the first trimester. I have gained those pounds back now. However, I am currently only six pounds over my pre pregancy weight. So, that would be a total of 19 to 20 pounds that I have gained. I am currently at 26 weeks.

I started out at 118 and when they admitted me to the hospital at 36w3d I was 176, so about 58lbs total. I had insulin dependent gestational diabetes and was on a strict diet, also developed toxemia at the end so I think alot of the weight was water. My doc was worried because in the beginning I didn't gain much, by 20 weeks I was at maybe 12lbs up and then it just started piling on and she was like - hey there, slow down .

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I've gained 4-5 lbs so far. Doctor isn't worried. I was told I'll start piling it on around month #7.

I am 20 weeks and I have gained 14 lbs. I also started off about 30 lbs over my healthy weight so I don't feel as if I need to gain the full 50 lbs.. It seemed I gained weight easier early on and now its getting harder to put the weight on.. I gained 2 lbs in 1 month and my MW did say that it wasn't enough. I am also trying my hardest to go by Dr. Luke's guidelines.

My scale battery went on the fritz about two weeks after I found out I was pregnant (a blessing as I have been very weight conscience these past few years!). I started out at 130 and weighed 152 at my 20-week appointment.

I will say that in the beginning, I gained weight in my hips and thighs. At this point, a lot of that extra weight appears to be gone and I am growing a nice, firm belly! I have been keeping up with my exercising (elliptical/spin class), but at a much lower intensity.

I started out around 126 lbs, 5'8". This morning, I weighed 152, so I'm up 26 lbs at 25 weeks. I've been gaining pretty steadily from day 1. My weight gain has stalled a bit the last couple of weeks, which I think is pretty normal for right now.

My goal is 40 lbs total, since I gained 30 lbs w/ DD1 and 33 lbs w/ DD2....I don't limit anything I eat. For some reason, I have not been craving any junk food with this pregnancy, except for the Dr. Luke approved milk shake, which sometimes sounds sooooooo good! ;)

My total weight gain was 70 lbs. :icon_eek: I went from 130 to 200. I gained 2 lbs a week for most of my pg (I couldn't stop eating), though it did slow down a little towards the end.

I, too, followed Dr. Luke's book and gained 20 lbs by 20 weeks. I delivered at 198 and for the life of me I can't remember where I started but it was around 140 or so. I have 6 and 8 lb babies too :)

i am 33 weeks 1 day and have gained 18 pounds with the twins. I had really bad morning sickness for the first 4 months so It takes a while to get the weight back. My doctor is fine with it though. The babies are growing great (over 4 lbs each) and I eat a lot of protein. I am now on bedrest so i'm wondering if i will start to pack the weight on these last few weeks.

I gained 53 lbs. At 12 weeks I'd only gained 2-3 lbs, so I didn't thing there was anyway I'd hit the 20lbs by 20 weeks goal, but I did.

I was induced at 38.5 weeks and my girls were both 6lbs 2oz.

I gained quite a few first trimester, slowed down second, and gained well in my third. Bed rest kind of didn't help things either.

When I delivered at 36 weeks, I had gained 55lbs total.

That was pretty much me too, I'd only gained about 5 lbs 1 tri and thought there was no way! But it just magically happened, lol!

I ended up gaining 57 lbs with the girls. I had them at 36wks1d.

I'm only 12 weeks along and I had a really difficult time with weight and appetite so far. I was losing weight (about 4 pounds) until I started supplementing with Boost and Ensure drinks. Now I'm up by 1 pound (gained back the weight I lost plus 1). I've also been told I should gain as much as I can, especially early on.

ditto on the recommendations for the Dr. Luke stuff. both her book & my midwives advocate for a total gain minimum of 1lb/week-

    start weight: 130lbs
    current week: 34
    current weight: 166 (so 36lbs)
(but I was stagnant and even lost 3 lbs before gaining it back in the last month-- bed rest had a lot to do with it- not eating the same way-- and I'm having to watch my sugars/carbs)

    good luck!

Honestly, I've tried to follow Dr. Luke's plan - but my body just isn't putting on the weight as quickly as it NORMALLY would. I mean, usually I smell food and gain weight. This eat-what-you-want bliss is a dream come true. I just wish I could ALWAYS eat this much and actually maintain or lose weight!

I gained about 50 lbs and i am almost 6 foot. My babies were very small but healthy enough to never need any NICU time and came home with me after 4 days... They left the hospital at 3.9 and 4.7...

I gained 54 lbs. with my twins, and that was at almost 38 wks into my pg. It's amazing how different everyone is though in this area. Some gain that with a singleton and I have a friend that gained almost 90lbs. with her twins. As long as your OB is ok with your weight then you should be good. Good luck!

    Hi!!

At first I was gaining a couple of pounds per week. But at 16 weeks I wasn't feeling well and found out I had gest diabetes. I had to do the diabetic diet and go on insulin so there ended eating whatever I wanted and I didn't even get to do that because I had morning and anytime sickness from 11 weeks that lasted until about 18 or 19 weeks. I went on strict bedrest at 20 weeks. I was in the hospital from 25-30 weeks on mag sulfate to stop my labor- and that makes you feel like crap so I wasn't eating a real lot. I actually lost weight from Dec until February. But the babes were growing and gaining so that was all that was important to me!!!I delivered at 34 weeks and by that time I had gained a total of 23lbs for the entire pregnancy. I am only 4'11" so thank God that's all I gained- I looked like a beached whale though- I was all baby and all in the front. My hubby said I looked freakishly large :rotflmbo: -lol. And yes- I still love him. i was pretty huge though. When I look at pictures I am still amazed at how big I looked-but at 4'11' and a very short torso I should have expected BIGNESS!!!!! The boys were a good weight at birth (4lbs 13oz and 4lbs 8oz). They had a rough start and spent time in the NICU but became the incredible shrinking babies. They never had a weight gain in the NICU- they came home at 3lbs 12oz and 3lbs 10oz- I am a NICU nurse so they figured that I could take care of them at home. And they did do better at home. I think the atmosphere was just more relaxed and I got them to eat-worked very hard at bf with them. All's well that ends well!!!!! They are now 6 and are doing great. Still little peanuts though- Griffin weighs 35lbs and Alex weighs 37lbs.

So- you don't have to gain 50 or more lbs to have healthy babies. Relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy and good luck!!!!!
