I have been on the mini pill for the past few months. I am still nursing my 8 month old boys, so that's why I am on it. My question for you (if you have taken it) is, did you know that there are no placebo/sugar pills with these pills???? I take the first 3 weeks of pills perfectly, but I never worry about taking the fourth week, because with all the other pills I have been on -- it doesn't matter. So I had some spotting and have done some research and found this out (NO PLACEBO) only in the last few days. And here's the kicker -- I am wondering if I was spotting because I am pregnant. I haven't taken a test yet. Soon. Like I said, my boys are 8 months, and I have a 2 year old son as well, so I am terrified of another baby. I am usually a pretty competent person, so I was wondering if anyone else knew this. This seems like something the OB should have mentioned when he prescribed the pills to me, right????

    Thanks in advance!!

I took the mini-pill at the exact same time every morning (on myway out to work), and I ended up pregnant. It happens. He's now 3, and keeping me on my toes [IMG]

I took it for the 5 mo. that I BF'd and honestly I had a lot of spotting throughout those 5 mo. My OB said it's pretty normal with the minipill. You do have to take it at the same time everyday and yes take all of the pills. Take a test to be sure, but I'm sure that it's just the pill b/c you've been skipping the last week of them.

    Is Yaz considered the mini-pill?

No, Yaz is a low hormone pill. I'm currently on that. The mini pill has no progesterone (I think) in it. I think the thought is that that hormone passes into the breastmilk and can affect the baby. The hormones of BF'ing combined with the mini pill hormone is "supposed" to prevent pregnancy, but there's always exceptions.

I also took the mini pill. My OB did tell me to take all of the pills. I'm glad he did because like you, I used to skip the last week. Hope everything turns out like you want it to!

Our babysitter got pregnant while taking the mini-pill. She was religious about taking it at exactly the same time everyday, too. I would definitely take a pregnancy test to be sure!

    Constance,

I, too, am nursing my 8 month old twins and have been on the mini pill since shortly after their birth. I've never had a problem with spotting. I take one every day and don't skip the last week. I just wanted you to be aware that the mini pill is less effective than other BCPs. I think the mini pill has about a 92% effectiveness rate; whereas, other BCPs have about a 99% rate.

I conceived my twins while taking Orthotricycline, so it does happen. I've heard of a lot of people conceiving on Depo. That's a shot, so you counldn't blame the patient for forgetting with that birth control method.

Good luck to you whatever happens...keep us posted if you are preggo!
