    Hi,

When you apply for WIC do they check what you tell them your income is? Through tax returns, SS numbers? I almost qualify, but not quiet even though we have 5 children! So I thought about saying my income was lower than it is, but I do not want to get into any type of trouble. I know it is dishonest, so no lectures please, just advice. I have never applied for any type of government assistance and I am nervous. Also does anyone have their twins on medicad? Can you go to any Dr. that you want to go to and does medicad cover RSV shots.

You have to bring proof of income when you apply for WIC, so they know right off the bat if you qualify.

With Medicaid, not all doctors accept it. You may have to look around. The peditrician I used for the girls for 3 years did not take Medicaid so I had to find a new doctor.

I believe Medicaid does cover RSV shots.

    Hope that helps!

In my state you must bring in proof of income--We take a pay stub fron the past month. They do check--Surely you can qualify with 5 kids. When I found out I was preg with twins I called and they said I did not qualify, but I went to another Health Dept. and I got it--The first place only looked at our monthly income, but the 2nd looked at our income biweekly and I came in right under the nose. Hope you can get it--It has been such a blessing for us!!!

We just barely qualified for WIC, too. We don't qualify for medicaid. They do check on your income. Try it and see what happens. I know that if they were to take into account that my DH gets overtime (which he does a lot), we would not qualify. The only way we qualified is from regular pay on his paystubs. Sorry this reply is all over the place... I hope you followed it. It's been a long day!!!

We had to bring in tax returns from the previous year. That's how we qualified for WIC (but not medicaid)--I had only worked half a year that year. Had they required me to bring in pay stubs we wouldn't have qualified b/c I had a teaching job by the time I had the girls. I had medicaid with my son b/c I was a single mom and they gave me a list of pedi's that accepted medicaid. I then had to call and find one that was accepting medicaid patients b/c apparently many of them have a limit on how many medicaid patients they take.

If you have Medicaid, you automatically qualify (income-wise) for WIC. You would not need any other proof of income other than your Medicaid card. My suggestion is to apply for Medicaid first. Medicaid will require you to provide check stubs/tax returns/etc and they will check your SS #. So, say you and DH both work, but you only report DH's income, they will find out that you work by running your SS #. If you do not receive Medicaid, WIC will require you to submit proof of income (check stubs/tax returns/etc.). Remember they use gross income and they do count any overtime/bonuses/etc. that is on your check stub.

PS. This is the way it works in NC, it may vary from state-to-state, but it should be basically the same guidelines.

our WIC office is on post, so we take in dh's most recent LES statement (like a paystub). of course all they have to do is put in his SSN and his rank comes up and they know how much he gets paid. good luck!

I just saw this post from you, I just wanted to let you know that we are on WIC. All I had to bring in was my husbands pay stubs for the last 30 days and social security card for all 3 kids and me. I get formula vouchers for the boys and DD gets them for milk etc. I also get them for milk, etc since I am not 6mths post partum (sp?) so it is worth a try. If you haven't been yet just call them and make an appt. I would think since there is 5 of you you could qualify, we did for the 5 of us. Good luck.
