I'm already a plus size gal and I know that with multiples you are supposed to gain extra weight so that your babies get nice and healthy and big, but is it different when you are overweight? I will also ask my OB tonight at my appointment, but I just wanted to post this to you ladies as well. Thanks in advance.

I started my pregnancy with alittle extra padding I was about a size 14. I lost 33lbs from morning sickness and issues with my thyroid. I struggle now to gain large amounts of weight. Thus far I have gained back 23 of the 33 pounds I lost. My Ob, has never set an amount that I could only gain. As long as my BP was good and the girls where growing she wouldnt bring it up. So far, we have some big babies and Im still doing just fine. When I finally give birth I will be a lot smaller then I was when I got pregnant... Plus for me! haha

But of course, every OB is different and yours may set limits. Good luck!!!

I've heard many stories where plus-sized women actually [lose] weight during pregnancy. Most of the time the skinnier you are, the more weight you'll gain. Your OB should fill you in with all the details. As long as baby are doing well, I wouldn't worry about it my dear ^_^

Thanks both of you. I don't think I have gained very much so far. Anyone who sees me doesn't believe that I'm pregnant with twins. But again, thank you. I really appreciate this board for all the help that we can get.

I would ask but I think your body does what it needs to. That said, I think the more slender you are, the more likely you are allowed a little more leeway to gain more.

I'm of average height and weight and was told that he'd like to see me gain 40lbs with the twins...I gained 55lbs and he didn't say a word.

I'm pregnant with a singleton now and was told that he'd like to see me gain around 40lbs...which I've gained thus far. My OB hasn't said one word about my weight gain...good or bad.

He's more interested in my glucose, blood pressure, size of the babies, etc.

I started my pregnancy heavy, my advice would be to focus on eating the protien you need. In trying to do that you will probably get all that you and your babies need. In the end I gained 18 lbs, but we also delivered early.

Exactly how my Doctor is. She did talk about the "better" things to eat, but over-all she is more interested in the other things.

I started off at 225 lbs and lost about 15 of that during the first trimester. I've just now gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight and it's all in my belly. I'm thinking I'll be one of those ladies who ends up weighing less after giving birth. Your doc is the best person to tell you how much/little to gain, but mine are fine with my weight fluctuation as long as the girls are growing properly.

    Good luck!

My doc said as long as I didnt loose any weight it was fine if I didn't gain any either with the twins. I also am about a 14/16. 24wks now and I think I've only gained about 7lbs? The babies are measuring perfectly though so they are healthy. I did loose about 20 lbs with my son and the doc was fine with that too (he was a single pregnancy). He was born 7lbs and 12 ounces- so healthy. I think as long as you are eating healthy and on top of those prenatals all should be ok. But like the other posts say, your doc will have advise too.

I was a size 12 when I got pregnant and lost 14lbs due to morning sickness and have only gained 2 lbs back thus far...I think I may leave the hospital weighing less than I started out at.

as long as you dont laugh... i started my pregnancy at 320. i was super overweight as is and was surprised to find out i was preggers... i have been wary about weightgain as well, since gaining too much would be worse for me than the babies. my ob said that its ok to gain about 1 to 2 pounds a month. its also ok to maintain my weight. and its even ok to loose a little weight, since im eating much healthier and whatnot. as long as you arent gaining or loosing a massive amount every month then you should be fine. im 21 weeks now and have gained 12 pounds which is a good weight gain for me. its all up to what your doc says and your vitals. i have hypertension so monitoring my vitals and weight is super important... hopefully this helps you :)

I would never laugh, I started out at 238 and so far have only gained 2 pounds. My OB said that a gain of 1/2 pound a week, but no more than 1 pound a week is perfect for me. My bp has been really good since I have been eating a couple pieces of dark chocolate a day. Have no idea if that has anything to do with it. My OB will be doing close monitoring just because of the twins, but so far(and I know it's still early on) so good.

    Thanks to everyone.

I started out a little under-weight and when I asked me DR about weight gain he said "I'm am not going to talk to you about weight gain...you are going to be a cow". He said I will gain about 50 pounds. :)

No laughing here. I started out at around 245-250 and have already gained about 50lbs! My Dr really hasn't touched on the weight subject, I think she is only concerned with the babies well being not my fat

I'm so glad to hear that. My dr said about 1/2 a pound to a pound a week would be fine and so far so good. Thanks everyone for their input. I needed this.
