I went to my doctor on Friday and found out that I am having twins. They also told me there was a third sac but there wasn't a baby in there. What does this mean? Does this mean I had vanishing triplet syndrome and does this increase my chances that I will have vanishing twin syndrome with the two? I don't know if it makes a difference but we got pregnant naturally with no fertility drugs. Thanks in advance for your answers

    Hi Lorin
I had a vanishign twin with my first pregnancy as there were 2 sacs but only one heartbeat. IF you saw two sacs and two heartbeats it won't be a vanishign twin. You shoudl be okay at this point. Teh vanishign is only beofre a heartbeat is found!!!! Hope that helps!!

Hi Lorin! Welcome to TS! How far along are you? My Dr told me that after 12 weeks vanishing twin is very rare. DId they see the heartbeats of the other two? Good Luck!

Thank you for your help. I am 10 weeks today. And I did see two heart beats.

I went in at the same point and they told me I would most likely have a vanishing twin, but my little munchkin decided to stick around. Don't be too surprised if it goes either way at your next appointment. You still could end up with triplets. But I think the likely hood of one of your other babies vanishing after seeing heart beats is very very low. Congrats!!!!

    Hi Lorin -
I actually had a vanishing triplet and now my two boys are doing just fine. My husband and I did a two-blastocyte transfer and apparently, both took and one split. I developed OHSS early on so I had ultrasounds just about every day during the first few weeks of my pregnancy and saw three heartbeats in the beginning. Around 10 weeks, one of them stopped beating - one of the identical pair didn't make it. Today, I have two super-healthy, strong, extra-big guys in there that are kicking up a storm. My doctor said that a vanishing triplet in no way correlates to vanishing twins later on. I know your situation is slightly different but I will keep my fingers crossed that all will go well with the pregnancy from here on!
