As some of you may have read, I had a rough weekend and went into preterm labor. I was on a Magnesium Sulfate IV and had shots of terbutaline and then came home with a prescription for terbutaline 5mg pills.

Here's the question: if you were on either one (or both) did you have a hard time breathing? Not talking about the fast heartbeat but the feeling that your can't get enough air to your lungs.

I used to be asthamtic and now I just can't seem to breathe. I can't lay down hardly at all because I just feel like I'm suffocating. I almost want to get an inhaler again but I read up on the turbutaline and its used for asthma too...hmmmm.

Perhaps its just the Magnesium? I'm still burning up really bad from it, had to sleep with the fans on and cold compresses on my face and neck. I think the Mag must be wearing off though because my babaies are finally active in me again.

Anyways, sorry so long winded (possible pun). I'm going to talk to my dr today about it, but I'd really appreciate any stories or help from someone who had to take these medications.

I did the same experience for PTL... mag for 48 hours and a few terbutaline shots when the contractions kicked up despite the mag. I don't remember feeling that way immediately after the mag. But about a week after I had it, I did have chest pain and difficulty breathing. I actually had a blood clot in my lung. It was not caused by the drugs, though! I'd give your OB a call about what you're feeling. It may be a side effect of the terb.

    Thank you for your story.
My dr called in a prescription for an abuterol inhaler today, which I'll be using as soon as dh gets home with it. I just feel like I have 200lbs on my chest.
I have a dr appt/checkup on Thursday morning so that's good.

If anyone else has any stories regaurding these drugs please share. Thank you!

 Kimani. I was on both Mag and Terbutaline, and I know how hard those drugs are!! The mag can take several days to wear off completely, but as far as the breathing goes I never experienced that. So glad that you called your Dr and he was able to prescribe an inhaler for you, I hope it works well. GL!!

Thanks! I hope the inhaler really does start working.

DH had the WONDERFUL idea of starting a fire in our brand new wood stove/heater since he thought it was cold. (Mind you I'm still burning up from the meds) Well the smoke wouldn't vent out and I couldn't breathe at all. I ended up calling his mom up crying to come pick me up. Darn near the whole family showed up. It was awful and I was soooo mad at him for making me breathe that in the day after getting back from the hospital and right after he picked up my inhaler. I don't know what the hell he was thinking.
