The sleep sack is awesome! This is what I put my daughter in after we swaddled her for the first few months. Halo Sleep sack makes several different ones, that can be for warmer or cooler weather.

Same here!! :good: We swaddled the kids when they were babies but after they outgrew them but were stilll too young for blankets, we got sleeping sacks and we still use them. Great thing!

Yes, I used them as they got bigger. When they were little I still swaddled them in a blanket, they do sell the swaddle type blankets at Target and other stores.

I started using the sleepsacks once they started rolling over and became unswaddled in the blanket. They are meant to be used instead of blankets as well. And you can buy heavier ones for the winter as well. I linked the website in there for you. They generally give a twin discount of BOGO free or BOGO half off. :good:

ETA: They even have them with feet that you can use as they start walking. :good:

They can sleep in them, but I made sure to have a whole bunch when my daughter was born and she didn't sleep well in them at all. We ended up swaddling her and so all the sleepsacks we had were never really used. (Just food for thought, but I was beyond relieved after watching The Happiest Baby on The Block and learning how to properly swaddle!)

so when they are just born and home, you swaddle them correct? what do they wear?

then when they start moving around you use the sleepsacks?

Yes, we started swaddling them when we brought them home. Mine wore a onsie and a footed pajama and then they were swaddled. :good: We also kept our house pretty cool (summer babies) so I wanted to make sure they were comfy, but you can adjust the clothing as you see need be.

We started using the sleepsacks once they started to "escape" the swaddle. Swaddling is great for babies because they tend to jump alot while they sleep, and then will hit themselves in the face and they wake up... so the swaddle keeps their hands in place. PLUS they have been in your belly for all those months warm and cozy, so they tend to like the snuggly (is that a word?) feeling. Once they get a bit older (my dd went to 5 months with the swaddle) then you can start using the sleep sack if you want. It's much safer then using a blanket, at that age.

I think my DS is the exception to the rule, but he's hated being swaddled since day one. Perhaps it has something to do w/ the fact that he was under the bili lights (naked except a diaper) for the first 4-5 days of his life. He's also very warm blooded and still refuses to this day to even cover up w/ a sheet, even though he's in a real bed. He was born late Feb and slept in either sleep sacks or regular sleepers until summer. Never ever swaddled, tho.

We read the book Happiest baby on the block to learn how to swaddle-- my dh was really good at it and they were so tightly wrapped in there. Later on my one daughter would work until she got her arms out but by then she was tired and slept.

When they started to roll we switched them to sleep sacks (sleeping bags) and they are 16 months and still in them. We just adjust what they are wearing depending on the temperature of the house. I find that putting them in them is part of their routine for sleeping and often they won't sleep the same if I don't put them on. I love them because I know they are covered up throughout the night.

Try not to buy any that are Polar fleece because that is just way too hot when you add the clothes as well.

We never really swaddled beyond the hospital. DD just wasn't having it! The sleepsack worked well because DD liked to kick her feet and the swaddle was a little too confining. The sleepsack provided some security (like a sleeping bag) but she could still kick to her heart's content!

Check Ebay or children's resale shops for good deals on Sleepsacks. I have gotten plenty for $6-$8 in wonderful condition- it sure beats $20+ for a new one!

We swaddled when we brought the babies home, we used the Swaddle Me blankets, easy to use and the babies loved them. After they grew out of the swaddle, we used sleep sacks and still do. Good luck!

OMG, I used the Swaddle Me blanket things as well. My son was a mover, and I could NOT keep him swaddled in a blanket. I thought he hated to be swaddled, which he did, but he didnt realize that mommy new best!! I bought/tried one of these, I'll explain what they are. Its a sack on the bottom, and the top, overlaps over the chest, and velcros in the back (correct?). Its been 2 years since using one, but I remember the first night I used it, he slept ALL night! It was a miracle. So yes, mommy did know best!

After a few months, he could get out of it, and would have one arm waving around, all proud...too cute. But they work wonders. The sleep sacks are nice and cozy for once they are a little bit bigger, I did use them as well :) Every child is different, buy a few different things, and see which one works before buying all of one kind!

I used snap up footed PJ's AND our very favorite..the Kiddopotamus sleep sacks!! I *hated* swaddling them in reciving blankets, they always escaped (well, I hated swaddling them. period!) But once we started using the Kiddopotamus ones they slept SO great!!
they basically lived in the snap up PJ's from Target (Circo brand) for the first few months ;)
