Okay here is a question I posed to my Dr. and I still feel like I need the opinions of others. When did you all stop having sex during your pregnancy... or did you? I am 31 wks and my Doc say we can keep on going until he says to stop (and he sees no reason) I have been having BH contrax and of course orgasm brings them on for just a short period of time. (no pain but they have been getting 'harder' over the last few weeks) My cervex has shortened but not to a level where I need to be on full bed rest... just staying near home with my feet up. My husband is the one who is now shying away from the act (I have to add that the hormones this pg have been crazy for me) My DH and I have basically "switched" in the traditional hubby wife roles... I want it all the time and he doesnt!! Of course things have naturally slowed down a bit just due to the mass of my body!! I guess what I want to know is if we continue to have sex it that may trigger PTL. And if any of your docs said to stop after a certain point (obviously bed rest would mean no sex right?) sorry this is so long and if it is TMI... but I really forget to be modest most of the time!! [IMG] Thanks!!

DH and I did it like once the whole time. We just didn't feel comfortable with the idea that it could theoretically jump start PTL. Of course when I was put on bed rest we had orders to stop.

I was on 'pelvic rest' for our entire pregnancy starting from the beginning when I was bleeding and only on modified bedrest - and it was again strongly emphasized over and over once my cervix started shortening as it can bring on PTL...

We tried on our anniversary, and I think I was around 27 weeks, somewhere in there. We just ended up laughing most of the time, b/c I was so big and miserable that it just wasn't going to happen. If you can manage it comfortable, more power to you [IMG]

Thanks everyone... yes for us it has to be a little "creative" at times!! And we end up laughing at ourselves most of the time too!! I am still a little worried about PTL so maybe I will ask my doc AGAIN... anyone else has some to add please do!!

i was told by my dr. (granted, she is very liberal and easy going), that sex was okay up until the end. that was until i was put on bed rest due to my shortened cervix. it seemed to me that as long as there were no complications, she had no concerns about dh and i having sex. i asked her about it inducing labor, and she said there wasn't enough sperm that would actually induce labor and if that were true, people would be making their own delivery dates by just having sex.

before becoming pg, i wasn't all that interested in sex. in the second trimester though, i was very interested. dh is now cut off though. [IMG]

I was on pelvic rest in the beginning - then at 21 weeks we tried
but it was so awful! it lasted all of 5 minutes and was laughable!
we have not done it yet - I am STILL bleeding and my incision is still
not healed completely after my c-section but I am looking forward to it!

and w/ my oldest son - sex did bring on labor - you have to be really ready but the semen will help you along if your cervix is really ready! I was 5 days late and no signs of labor - my OB was going to let me go to 2 weeks late and I was SO miserable that I would have tried anything! My OB actually told me to go home and have sex! it worked!

I have not had a whole lot of interest in sex w/DH, between being sick and tired (literally) for so long and now just being big....

My understanding is that the prostoglandin in semen can SOMETIMES bring on labor (my gut says that your body is just about there anyway, and that just pushes it over the edge), but that orgasm alone generally does not. I feel BH sometimes after I do, but they go away pretty quickly.

And, if this is not TMI, i've found that due to increased blood flow, I've had truly mind-rocking O's, (often by myself) during this pregnancy.

We did a few days ago and there was some hysterical laughter; the watermelon in my belly sure makes things interesting!

    !

I hear you there!! I actually read some docs may tell you you can keep having sex but have to stop masturbation because during pg the orgasms that come while "alone" are alot stronger than when you are with your partner!! Crazy! I have heard the chemical in sperm will help you dialate ... only after you have started naturally. Thanks again everyone!
