    Hello,

I have been meaning to come on here and ask. I weaned my sons from nursing at 1 year (they are now 13.5 months). Ever since then they have not had a solid poop. Only horrible runny, stinky poop. I had read that it would go away once their bodies got used to the Homo milk, but it hasn't and I am really getting sick of these horrible diapers.

Not sure what to do. Maybe I am doing something wrong? They eat really well (still prefer baby food mush) but ALWAYS start with finger foods. They only drink homo milk in a sippy cup, I have never given them juice or straight water.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!
    BB

they could be lactose intolerant and runny poop is one of the signs...you could try soymilk or if its just nasty poo but they're not in discomfort (gassy) you could just let it go...

But if I offered them juice or prunes wouldn't that make them poop MORE. haha

I was going to say prunes will make that even worse!

I would actually try to give them a banana a day if you can. That will help to bind things a bit. But I also agree with the possibility of being lactose intolerant. before you try soy, they do make lactaid milk. my grandmother used to drink it. I believe they make it in a whole milk so I would try that first and see if it makes a difference.

My first thought was lactose intolerant. Both my girls are, thanks to their daddy, :) and we had to switch them to a lactose fee milk. Its much better now. Good luck, HTH

    Thanks gals!

My one son JUST started eating whole banannas yesterday, so i will watch for improvement. I also went to the store and bought those lactaid DROPS. I will try in Milk for a few days and see if we have improvement!!

    THANKS!!!!

Just curious, why aren't they drinking water? Especially if they are having runny poops, you need to watch out for dehydration. I also second giving them bananas, also try some rice cereal mixed with applesauce. It could be lactose intolerance too. Try no milk for a day and see what happens.

Sorry... TMI.... it's not so much runny diarhea as it is squishy poop. DO you know what I mean? It is not diarhea per se.

They have rice cereal with applesauce EVERY SINGLE morning. My neighbor said it is probably runny because they still eat baby mush, but that doesn't make sense to me because they had some solid poops before I weaned at a year.

Oiy! The conversations we have as Mothers!!!! LOL! :p

Ps: I don't give plain water because my sons are not big drinkers to begin with, Doc said to make sure they have a sippy of milk by them so when they do think about drinking, it is there and it is nourishment.

The same exact situation happened over here. I weaned mine at 1 year and started on whole milk. They had yucky poops for a few weeks. At one point ped suggested switching to soy for a few days to a week to see if that helped - it didn't. Eventually they just got better. Ped also suggested adding more fatty foods to their diet - although it seems counter-intuitive. So, we added lots of muffins and avacado to the daily menu. Hope that helps:)

I always forget about the lactaid milk! squishy poop is pretty normal in my house - I don't even think about it...
