question about NSTs

At what point (how many weeks) do most doctors start doing routine NSTs? My girls have a weight disconcordance of 18%, but NSTs have not been mentioned yet.

For my fraternal twins with a large discordance, I started at week 30.

 

My NST's started at 32 weeks, but there haven't been any problems either.

 

I just started mine this week (32 wks) as per my request. Otherwise, it would be at 34. Maybe because my early U/S showed di-di. I think the placentas fused early on. I wanted it done because of my contractions.

 

At the risk of sounding extremely dumb... what are NSTs?? I am 32 wks and am not quite sure what you are asking!

My OB just had us do one this past Tuesday. It was our first one. I'm guessing it will be our only one most likely. We were almost 37 weeks last Tuesday.

 

Mine started at about 30-32 weeks--when we went to weekly appointments.

 

I started TWICE weekly NSTs after I was released from the hospital for PTL at almost 32wks. Every Mon and Thurs. U/S was on Thursdays. Funny how you remember that stuff.

 

Mine started around 24 weeks and they were very hard to do since the babies still had so much room to wiggle around in...we started early with my history and the IUGR of Madison

 

I think i started at 29 weeks...i HATED them...if everything is normal, they usually start around 32 weeks, but there is no real consistency in when they are done, it depends on the DR and the pregnacy.

 

My ob was going to start weekly at 32 weeks but because of my elevated bp and pre-e concern they started this week at 30

briana - it's where they strap a monitor to your belly, getting each baby separately as well as one for your uterus: they measure any uterine contractions (sometimes we have them but don't feel them), and they are measureing movement of the babies....my doc said that they want to see two cycles of movement where they have a little spike and then recover w/in a certain period of time.

Painless - but BORING.

 

My peri started NST's at 32 weeks.
Melanie- 33 weeks

 

My MFM didn't start them until 34 weeks.

My OB says as long as everything goes well between now and then, she'll start them at 34 weeks.

I am 23 weeks and change now with fraternal b/g twins.

 

Mine started when I started having contractions -- 33 weeks with my singleton, I think

 

Around 32 weeks for me - it was my understanding that it is difficult to get the monitors to pick up valid readings much before that time.

 

I started w/ 1X per week at 32 wks, then went to 2X per week at 35 wks. I like them. I like hearing the heartbeats and knowing they are having regular accelerations and decelerations. Since we are so far along the NST and weekly amniotic fluid level check w/ u/s is really all my dr. is doing. We have a scheduled c-section set for March 5th b/c of a VERY low-lying placenta.

I started NSTs weekly at 23 weeks due to really bad gestational diabetes.

I'd go ahead and ask your doc or peri when they normally start them.

30 weeks. once a week. then 32 weeks twice a week. With the weight discordance, I would think more u/s not necessarily earlier nSTs.

I just had my 34 week appt. today, and they scheduled me for my first NST next Tuesday, and they'll go weekly til I deliver.

 

Yes, I meant to ask my peri and just forgot. Anyway, Dr. DeLia called me this morning and said frequent ultrasounds at this point are sufficient (with BPPs and doppler studies). I guess if those things didn't look okay then NSTs might be considered, although it does seem like it would be difficult to get them on the monitors very well.
