WWYD? One of my boys eats solids just fine. Loves it! The other doesn't want anything to do with it. Once in a while he will eat it and seems to enjoy it but most of the time he locks his lips and turns his head but takes his bottle. We've been feeding cereal rice/oatmeal for almost a month and I thought maybe if we switched to a different flavor like sweet potatoes he would give it a shot. Not a chance.... Question: Would stop feeding him solids all together for a week and then try again starting with oatmeal? Or keep doing what we're doing (sweet potatoes) for consistency and so he knows that's what coming?

Does this warrant a call to the ped?

I look forward to any advice/suggestions anyone has! TIA

I'm probably not the one to answer... we bf, and I didn't want to "bother" with solids for a loooong time. I waited until almost 8 months and when we started they took to it with gusto! I would say that the first few months of solids are just "for practice" anyway, and their nutrition is from breastmilk or formula... I know with bf babies, they don't even suggest solids until 6 months, so maybe he's just not ready yet. I would say wait and try again later.

I had this same problem with my DD. We started out on fruit puree at 5.5 months before introducing the savoury at around 6 months.

What I used to do was to give her 1 or 2 spoons of food before her bottle then give her the bottle. It was a battle at times but I never force fed her. Then one day she just decided to keep eating, which was around 7-8 months. I found sitting her upright in a highchair or in another form of seat helped a lot as she felt in control. Don´t worry, your LO will eat when he´s good and ready. GL!

I would probably stop for it a bit and then try again later. :good: They are still young and the first year is all about practice. They are still getting all their nutrition from formula (or breastmilk) so it's not going to harm them if they aren't eating solids right now.

at almost 5 months old i wouldn't even worry about it - they'll both be getting all the nutrition they need from their formula/breast milk & eating solids it just practice. i would just keep feeding your "good" eater as much as he seems to enjoy & just keep offering to your other little guy - he'll get it when he's ready. GL!

Mine both disliked it at first too. Give it a little break and try again later. They'll eventually love it!

I was just reading about this in the baby whisperer book...
her theory: you may have started too early. You could stop for a week or so and reintroduce or just keep trying. Like pp mentioned they should still be getting all their nutrients from bm or formula for now.

4 months does sound on the early side, IMO. Maybe one is ready and the other is not. I would hold off for a little while and try again.

My DS refused sweet potatoes for 3 straight days and on the 4th couldn't get enough - go figure!

i had the same issue with DD/DS. DS loves to eat, can't get enough and DD sealed her lips tight. so i just kept feeding DS and kept offering to DD just in case she changed her mind. 3 days ago she finally decided that she wanted to try it and now she is doing great, opening wide for the spoon and "chewing". it took her about 5 weeks to catch on, we started solids at 5 months. so i would just keep offering, no harm done if he doesn't want it.
