I had a OB appointment on Tuesday and the Doctor said he is hoping I make it to 34 weeks. Now the first appointment he said 36 weeks. My question is has any of your Doctor given goals like that. I love him and he is very honest and funny at the same time which is good when you are pregnant with twins but why would he lower the weeks. I have had no problems, none at all. Please help!

I think that he is probably trying to prepare you for the fact that most twins are early. Even without complications the average number of weeks twins are born at according to the hospital we plan to deliver at is 35.5 weeks. There are a number of reasons for this, but I think that the basic one is that they simply run out of room!

My OB has said nothing about when to expect delivery, but the nurse practitioner said expect to deliver at least 4 weeks early. This was hard for me to digest at first because with my daughter I went 5 days late!!!

Yep. I agree. He probably doesn't want you to be unprepared.

it's probably because things are going well, and they have a sense of how the babies are growing. my ob told me at my 26 week visit that she thinks she'll let me deliver if i go into labor anytime after 34 weeks. of course, i expect that if that happens, they'll assess everything again to see if the babies are 'ripe'.

Honestly, he probably just doesn't remember what he told you the first time... I remember my ob/gyns told me the whole pg long that they like to see their twin patients go to 36 weeks... that they usually do c/s around then... As my pg progressed that changed to 37 weeks...then they started talking 38 weeks... Maybe it's just such an individual thing...individual for the doctor and also for the particular patient that they just throw these ballpark numbers around without really meaning anything too drastic by it. Like he would like for you to get past 34 weeks...but 36 would be even better...and he'll let you go to 38 if you can.... I wouldn't over analyze it too much.

Thank you all so much, I thought maybe he just didn't want me to worry about something. I am not sure how far I want to get I would just like at least 6 lb babies, and that he what he said also.
