My DD gets very hot all the time, especially when she sleeps. We used to put her in onesies and the sleeveless cotton sleep sacks but she sweats and is always burning up. Even when I have taken the babies to the doctor for well checkups, she is always running a low grade temp. The nurse just attributes it to her being bundled in a blanket but we don't keep her bundled prior to them being seen. I even take them to the doctor stripped down to their diaper, but covered with a light blanket, to avoid having to go through stripping them there. The doctor hasn't expressed any concern about it, but i'm just wondering if anyone else goes through this with their little ones? We now just have her sleep in her diaper to keep her cool but then i'm constantly worried about her being cold.

What do you mean by "low grade temp"? Some people's bodies do run hotter than others, but I thought it was only by a couple of decimal points. Does the doctor who is not concerned have an explanation for why this is? (I have no expert medical knowledge at all -- I just think it's odd. My DD Amy is always on the hot side in terms of never needing a coat, sleeping in summer PJs in the winter, etc., but her temp is normal when they actually measure it.)

As far as sleeping in her diaper -- if she were cold, she'd most likely fuss. As long as she's sleeping soundly, I wouldn't worry about it.

By low grade I mean over 99. It's even been a little over 100 at the pedi for a well visit and she hasn't been sick. I don't know if just maybe her body temp runs a little higher than normal? Or that maybe her normal temp is just higher than 98.6? It's just weird. And the pedi has not given any explanation, just didn't say anything about it either. I guess I need to just ask next time. When I took them for their 4 month check up her temp was over 99. She and DS had a runny nose and some allergy congestion, but the pedi said no infection, didn't not prescribe anything, but did not give them their shots either because he wanted to make sure none of the congestion moved into their chest, which it didn't. We went back 4 days later to get their shots and she still had over a 99 temp. The nurse wanted to talk to the doc, but I told her to go back and look at my DD's chart and that every time we had been in there she had a temp over 99. The nurse did look and confirmed that was the case and just commented that it WAS odd, she double checked with the doc, and gave them their shots. Nothing was said again about the temp. But when she sleeps at night she gets REALLY hot and it just worries me. She sleeps all night and up until 3 nights ago they had been sleeping with DH and I. I put them both in their crib 3 nights ago, they slept 11 hours that night, so we haven't looked back. Now I'M the one not sleeping because I'm constantly worrying about her body temp. (That and because of MY separation anxiety. LOL)

Do you have a thermometer at home? Why not try taking her temp a few times a night for a few days to establish a pattern and then call the dr. again to discuss. Some people do just run hotter than others, but over 99 sounds a bit hot.

My Michelle used to get so hot and sweat a lot when she had reflux. Now she doesn't sweat like that anymore. But she doesn't like to be hot. My son however his temp is always 1-2 point lower than hers. And I have to dress him a bit more. And my daughter didn't have low temp though

I think your dd case is abit odd. I would talk to Pedi seriously. I wouldn't sleep well at night if my kids get low temp like that. I totally understand your worry. Ask for some test. Or if you can't stand with the unclear, take her to children er hey will run all the test and will give you better answer.

I agree take her rectal temp 3x/night is a good idea. Hugs!

One of my DD's runs a low grade temp on and off, but not near as often as you have explained. I would second PPs opinions to try and get to the bottom of this. And if your doc won't listen I would find one who would. I think you should trust your intuition just to gain some knowledge around why this is occurring for your own sanity and safety. To be honest, that sounds too high to be happening as commonly as you describe. 99 is one thing, over 100 is another. I am not a nurse though, I admit, but sounds like the actual nurse thought it was odd also.
