Hi ladies! I went in for my level II u/s yesterday (21 weeks), and this was the first time anyone had ever measured my cervix. It was 2.8-2.9ish. After reading some things online, I'm kind of freaked out that this is too short. They don't have me going back to the MFM doc for 4 weeks (didn't get good pics of the babies during anatomy scan due to position). I go back to the OBGYN on 8-11-08, but am wondering if I should have it checked again before then to make sure it's not shortening. Any advice? Should I be in a panic?

No you shouldnt panic. but you should take it very easy and stay in bed as much as you can. i would definetly see the OB way before the 11th. Between 18-24 weeks is the time when your cervix can change drastically in an instant. Definetly keep on top of it.

I was put on modified bedrest when my cervix was 2.5. Then strict bedrest with an emergency cerclage (at 22wks) when it was 1.5. I would see the doctor before 8/11.

I just wanted to write you about my experience with cervix length so far. I went for an ultrasound on June 19, 2008 and my cervix length was 2.6 cm. My doctor didn't seem too concerned but told me to take it easy, get lots of rest, don't lift anything, no sex or exercise. I just had another ultrasound on July 17, 2008 and my cervix is now 4.5 centimetres. Hopefully you'll have the same experience as me. All the best, Lydia

Thanks so much ladies. I can't believe the MFM didn't want me to come back sooner to check it. UGH. I just called and left a message for my OB, so hopefully they'll let me come in before then since I'm worried. You'd think they would be better safe then sorry. UGH!

I'd want it checked again in the next 1-2 weeks, it can change quickly and this is a critical time. Hopefully it will be the same length or even longer.

I totally agree. And in the meantime, I would take it easy.

Mine went from 3.5 to 2.5, and since then my doctor wants to see me every week (peri) he put me in modified bed rest...no house chores, lifiting and off my feet as much as possible. I went a week later and it was still the same. He also did a test that I tested positive for for early labor, but with twins, is a common thing. Good luck to you :)

Thanks guys. I got an appointment for Monday morning. I'll feel much better if they take another look.

I'm surprised they actually said four weeks! My doctor had me back in with the perinatologist the next week.
They discovered mine was shortening at 2.5 at around 17 weeks. Went on bedrest at 18 weeks, at 19 weeks
it was down to 2.1, had the cerclage that week, stayed on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy. From
19 weeks to around 30 weeks I had cervical length checks every two weeks. It stayed around 2.0, then
down to 1.7 for a few weeks, and the last check was 1.3, and then they said I was finished with the
length checks. At that point I just went in for growth scans.
