Im not quite sure if I have been having them or not. I am 18wks 1day w/ boys and since wed of last week i periodically have sharp lower abdominal pains, followed by trouble breathing, and a really hard(harder than normal) stomach. Im not sure if i should be worrying about them or not. My doc isnt much help with anything and i am trying to switch as we speak, but i usually lay back relax and i feel better after a while. If they continue like this every couple of days should i be worried and take a trip to doc to have it checked out or should i just do what i usually do, grab a glass of water and lay down.

I read may posts of women having the BH's and then end up going on bedrest because of PTL or cervix issues. I just wanted to see what any of you had to say, because to be honest i learn more here than anywhere. THANKS BUNCHES!!!

I think you should see the doctor and have your cervix checked. If it is contractions and it isn't changing your cervix, it's probably fine. I was having BH contractions and not realizing it (because they didn't hurt and I had not felt babies move yet due to an anterior placenta). I went for an ultrasound for something else and they discovered I was having a lot of contractions and that my cervix is funneled and only 1.5 cm. I was 19w1d. I'm on bedrest now. I hope it isn't contractions for you, but I think you should get checked out. I'm not trying to be alarmist, but I wish I'd known to get checked earlier.

I had BH from about week 17 on which it sounds like you are describing. I did drink tons of water and was on modified bedrest. Usually the water and the rest really helped as I was overdoing things around the house like chasing a 2 year old. I think anything that bothers you warrants a call to your Dr. and if you dont feel confident with that person than you need to change just like you said. My Dr. never wanted to manually check my cervix because he did not want to start anything moving. I did have periodic u/s from the Peri and they would just glance at my cervix and see that it was fine.

Yeah, I've been having them from about the time you're at. Do make sure you're hydrated, and rested! Also, when they come, try counting them and seeing if you're having four or more an hour. If you are, DEFINITELY call!

If you have more than four in one hour, call your doctor. Stay super duper hydrated, urinate frequently, and rest as often as possible. That is the best advice I have to offer.

I was so scared throughout what felt like my whole pregnancy. I dont reember what week it began but I had BH constantly. LIterally it was all day long. My dr was never concerned. One time I called him because it was so constant and he had me come in but everything was fine.I was never put on bedrest but I was off my feet a lot and drank tons of water.

I'm like Nicole (posted above me) I am 32 weeks and have had BH for about 5 weeks or more. They started out every 2 mins. and lasted 5 minutes and then a couple of days later became constant. I did go to the hospital and I was put on a monitor and later they manually checked my cervix --- it hasn't dilated and also an ultrasound showed no changes.

Now I continue to have them on and off throughout the day especially when doing things like groceries or making supper. At night it can be worse and keeps me up. The heaviness now is hard because it weighs on my pubic bone which is softening --- OUCH. The doctor called it an irritable uterus and I've heard of many women given medication yet it doesn't seem to help. I take tylenol with codeine (10 mg of codeine) but I only take it when I have a particularly hard night or it seems to last 6 hours or so.

I don't have pain in my back or lower groin area -- just a tight heavy feeling and pressure on my bladder. Love the extra trips to the bathroom !!
