So me and my husband have been discussing this, and aren't sure.....I have twins in 2 sacs, I don't know if there are 1 or 2 placentas.......I know they can each move around in their sacs, but can they switch places with each other? So Baby A at one visit might be Baby B at the next? My husband thinks they do move like that, but Baby A has had a heart rate about 20 bpm faster than Baby B at each u/s, so that makes me think Baby A is always Baby A and has not ever traded places with Baby B......if that makes any sense

I have wondered this too. Will Twin A always be Twin A and Twin B always Twin B? Interested to hear what others have to say.

My husband actually asked this question at our last ultrasound and she said that since ours are in 2 separate sacs, Baby A (for us) will always be on the left, and Baby B will always be on the right. They cannot switch places/sides. So it should be the same for you!

I think they can move quite a bit. They might not be able to switch sides totally, but they can move up and down. For us Baby A was the one closest to the exit point. He basically camped out in the same spot for my entire pregnancy. They were head down from 18 weeks on and he had his head pretty far down.

from what i understand, basically, they go by where they have "implanted" in the uterine wall, and as they grow their sacs remain in the same position....the sacs don't move around and therefore the babies can't switch places (unless as pp said they're in the same sac)....usually baby a is the closest to the "exit" (lower placement)

is there an o.b. mother of twins out there in this forum? B)

The u/s person told us the same thing - that Baby A is the one closest to the 'exit'. They haven't changed position with respect to that. I think they've staked out their territory and that's that!

At my first u/s they were both transverse, laying straight across my belly, making the lower one baby A, and the higher one baby B. Emma was my baby A and remained towards the bottom throughout the whole pregnancy, although she flipped around a few times.

The way it was explained to me was that they can always tell which baby is which depending on where the placenta attached therefore baby A can never be baby B they are ALWAYS the same.... although they will move positions they won't ever trade positions b/c the umbilical cord attached to the placent keeps then kind of anchored
