Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me popping in here briefly. My twins are actually 11 months old, but we also have a 6.5 year old son and I had a quick question about him. We've been dealing with behavior issues with my oldest well, since the twins were born (imagine that :spiteful:). We're dealing with lots of back talking, meltdowns when he doesn't get his way, escalating to yelling when he's upset. These are all new behaviors that we never really dealt with before the boys and we know so much of it is due to so much of our time being taken up by the babies now.

We try to spend time each day with him without the babies, and always include him in everything else. We also use positive encouragement as much as possible. But we're just not finding the right combination yet.

My question is; I've heard a lot about 1-2-3 Magic but wonder if it will work at this age if we've never used it before. Any thoughts?

    TIA

    Laura

We started using it about 3 months ago. My twins will be 5 in Sept. and we also have a DD that is 7 (will be 8 in Feb). She's done just as wonderful with it as the twins have done. I think it can definately use for this age as well.

Personally, I think it can be used at any age. I used it with a couple of my more challenging first grade students this year with absolute success.

YES. Perfect for this age group. I just re-read the book and it's working. I do think it's too much for 2 year olds, personally, but I'm hoping that she'll pick up on it by watching her brothers.

Can you still use 1-2-3 Magic at home even if the teachers don't use it at school? My DDs are in full-time (40 hrs/wk) preschool and their discipline style is fairly different. I read the book when the girls were around 2.5 or 3 and decided they were too young for it, especially since their school didn't use it, but now I'm wondering (based on all your stellar reviews) if I should give it another try.

OH YES!!! It goes up to 12 yrs. I'm re-reading it as our needs have changed to the "start behaviors" more!!! I can say "that's 1" and my kids snap to almost immediately!

    I recommend it!!!

I use it on all of my kids (ages 4-9, I feel the 2 year old is still too young for it). It works well for us.
