Quesadillas, my trick for picky eaters!

I have found a rather tricky (and EASY) way to get my picky eaters to eat a little more by tossing some stuff in a whole wheat tortilla and toasting it in the toaster oven. A few things I have tried so far that have gone down pretty easy are:

cheese, american slices or any type of shredded
    spinach, dethawed frozen
    broccoli also dethawed frozen
chicken (cooked in taco seasoning and a bit of oil)
    seasoned ground beef
    black beans
deli meats (good with cream cheese too!)
    eggs

Mine actually love cheese, so I can mix just about anything with enough cheese and they usually eat it.

I have thought about trying "pizza" with cheese, veggies and pasta sauce (I read somewhere about mixing some jarred baby food with the sauce to sneak in some veggies). It would probably be a little messy, but hey, when are they not messy?!

    Any other ideas?

    Sounds good.

I add organic sweet potatoes baby food to my mac and cheese. Kids don't notice the difference, and still tastes just as good. ;)

Great post! I need some ideas for hiding food! Someone in my twins club said she hides carrots in pancakes!

Sounds good! I've made them with melted cheese and hot dogs sliced really thin. They like to dunk them in different sauces too.

Did you see Oprah yesterday? It had Jerry Seinfeld's wife on, who wrote the cookbook Deceptively Delicious. It is all about easy ways to hide veggies in your kids everyday meals. I will be buying a copy.

I will so be ordering that book! I think I won't even tell DH about it since he is not the biggest fan of veggies himself! Thanks so much!!

Okay I am all for hiding veggies if your kids just flat out refuse to eat any of them, but make sure you still put some veggies straight on their plate. They need to get used to eating regular veggies or their wives will be having to hide their veggies the rest of their lives. My kids have a very limited selection of what the will eat (green beans, corn, carrots, and peas sums it up), but when we have squash or asparagus I make sure they get some to try. I do hide certain veggies like spinach because mommy won't eat them plain.

I saw this in People magazine.

I do agree with Jenn, though, too. I give them veggies at dinner all the time to ensure that they get used to eating them.

We also turn alot of meals into quesadillas for insured eating. If we have tacos, I put all of the ingredients except the spices and lettuce in the tortilla. They also loved the quesadilla version of fajitas - thinly sliced chicken (no spices), grilled onion and bell peppers, cheese, rice and black beans. They would never eat those veggies by themselves. I have also been known to melt shredded cheese over the whole plate of food before giving it to them. The cheese also helps hold things together for those little ones wanting to 'fork' feed themselves!

I have it on tape and have yet to watch it in full. I bought the cookbook and just ordered The Sneaky Chef, which is similar. I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes.

I agree, your kids should get used to eating fruits and veggies in their "natural" form instead of a hidden puree in food, yet I think this is a great way to give your food a nutrition boost, and then not worry if your kids eat or don't eat their fruits and veggies. Personally, my kids are good at eating their fruits and veggies, and I hope it continues. :D

    Fun post! :)

FWIW, she advocates serving veggies on the side. They still need to learn to eat veggies, consciously!
