I just hit 30 weeks and am so happy to make it this far! I've been in the hospital for over 5 weeks and was hoping to be discharged in two days. Well.....I'm in a ward room (no private rooms here) and the roomie next to me suddenly was taken away. Next thing I know, a few nurses with gowns and masks come towards me and tell me I have to be quarantined for 10 days because I've been exposed to MSRA which is a hospital superbug. I'm livid right now. No one is giving me any answers and telling me how this can affect me and babies. All they are saying is, we'll deal with this should the test come back positive. Thankfully, I was very careful when I overheard that this same girl had active herpes and took extra precautions with handwashing and used a paper towel to touch light switches, taps etc. However, the nurses were still monitoring her first and then me so who knows how good they sterilized the equipment. I should get my results in 2 days - this is so nerve wrecking! Hospital bedrest sucks as it, but to be quarantined from exposure to a superbug is ridiculous! I'll keep you posted on the results! OMG Brooklyne! I'm sorry you are quarantined and they aren't giving you many answers! I hope the test results come back negative. :hug99: PLEASE keep us updated.
OH no. I am so sorry to hear that. However, the good news is that you were taking precautiouns because of the Herpes. Back in March they suspected that my daughter had MRSA. She had a skin abscess that was really effected. She ended up having MRRA which is a relative of MRSA. They let me handle her and do everything with her even knowing that I was pregnant with twins. This leads me to believe, that if you are careful, things should be fine. Did they start giving you an antibiotic or are they waiting for the test to come back? I know they put my daughter on Cleocin. It stunk so bad and she was still too small for the pills. Yuck! I hope the tests come back quickly, and negative!
I'd be livid too! I'm mad for your sake just reading that! I pray all is well. . . I am in a private room, and obviously for privacy sake, I can't know too much about the other patients on my hall. But let me tell you that that I do know there are some real weird and pitiful cases with some of these on this antenatal hall. Some of the women come in here faking preterm labor, no kidding. Some come in here with their whole families practically and have multiple kids spending the night and eating as much as they can courtesy of the dining service on someone else's dime. Pretty much all ladies on this hall are on pelvic rest orders, but the nurses sometimes accidentally walk in on people having intercourse. . . I am told it's even worse on the mom/baby wing right after these women give birth! One lady here was faking a migraine for an entire week because she didn't want to go home. This is a nice hospital, but it is the only one serving our county for births pretty much. You see/hear about lots of people taking advantage of "the system". Lots of strange, pitiful cases. We have a lot of illegal immigrants who show up in labor without having had any prenatal care, speak no English and sometimes with diseases they are carrying/haven't been treated for because they are too frightened to go to a doc. The don't even know the babies' gestational ages many times. It's all sad and infuriating at the same time.
OMG that is absolutely horrible and the LAST thing you need to be worrying about right now! I would be SO mad too! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. :itwins: Keep us updated on results and everything!
First test out of three is negative!! I won't fully be cleared for another 8 days. It's a long time to worry about whether or not I'm MSRA positive, but at least I can breathe a bit easier for the time being. I raised the biggest raucous over being quarantined in a room that wasn't properly cleaned and complained about how everything was handled. Why on earth would they not clean the room and then leave me in there to be further exposed! I spoke to infection control and put in a complaint and then they decided to put me in my own room probably to shut me up. I'm still very upset and plan to take things further. One of my roomies was sent home without her MSRA results so they are not too strict on the quarantine! I had an ultrasound today. My cervix is still 1 cm and still closed - yippee!!! However, Baby A has slightly less fluid and I need to be monitored more with non-stress tests. The nurse who spoke to me said that this is nothing to be overly concerned about, but since I'm only 30.3 weeks my OB wants to see me get to 32 weeks at least and is an overly cautious doctor so no chance of going home any time soon. Does anyone know anything about low fluid? I'm not leaking, but still worried about my girl. Any advice? What a rollercoaster ride this is! Emily@Home - I completely agree with you. I have seen so many people taking advantage of the system and playing dumb. I've seen and heard of all sorts of unacceptable things happening in this hospital - a patient having sex with their spouse, a patient in and out of every hospital in the city and denying she's been to any hospital even when she was shown the report, a patient ordering food for their kids. Also, I've heard of other medical disasters - patients going into early labour because they don't have coverage.....lots of disasters that could be prevented- this is such an eye opener of an experience. All I want is to be MSRA negative and to have my babies arrive safely. And an added bonus would be to get to spend some time whether it be a day or week at home before babies come. Thanks for your support! I'll update when all my tests are complete. Brooklyne xxx
Brooklyne, You are going to go beyond 32 weeks! I don't know how you've handled the extra duress of this quarantine. How low was the fluid? I've heard to keep yourself hydrated, maybe even with drinks that have extra proteins, nutrients in them? You'll love this tidbit for hospital culture entertainment. . . there's a fridge here on my hall specifically for longterm patients and their families that's kept stocked with drinks. . . Let's just say some pathetic people go in there and clean out all the complimentary beverages, a nurse told me.
