put on bedrest for IUGR--no signs of PTL

I'm 26 weeks 2 days and have been told to go on moderate bedrest. Basically lay on the couch all day except to shower, pee and get a quick meal. No chores, no driving, no walking around, no stairs. At 24 weeks they discovered Baby B has a lot of resistance in its cord. It is showing decent growth, but measuring 2 weeks smaller than it's gestational age. I have been getting weekly ultrasounds and now there will be a nurse coming to the house to do the NST 3/week.

I am wondering if this is normal protocol?? Anyone else put on bedrest for IUGR???

I guess because I feel so good, and I don't have any signs of preterm labour or anything
Don't get me wrong, I will do anything they tell me to do to keep these babies safe. They told me the goal is 34 weeks. And I am thrilled with the quality of care I have been getting.

    Thanks

I was put on bed rest the same day they found out it was twins because Jessy already had iugr due to her 2 vessel cord. I was the same way I felt great myself but Jessy wasn't doing as well.

When we found out it was twins we also learned that Ryan had IUGR and they may develop TTTS. I put myself on "couch rest" and focused on drinking lots of fluids and eating lots of protein. I also laid on my left side at all times (even if I was in the recliner). At the next u/s Ryan finally had fluid around him and his kidneys were functioning. I made sure to take it extra easy for several weeks. Once he improved I would cook meals and sometimes go out to eat, but I was mostly on the couch. That poor cushion still proves it!

At my 30 week appointment, Baby A had very low fluid, and she had always measured small....she started slowing down in growth by this time too...I was put in the hospital overnight and then on modified bedrest. I never had signs of preterm labor, and had to be induced at 34 weeks 6 days because of Preeclampsia...but the doctor thought that the bedrest totally helped...I also drank a ton of water, and rested as much as possible....

In the end, Baby A was only 10 ounces lighter than her brother! Whoo hoo! And she weighed 5 lbs 5 oz!

Hope everything goes well for you!

Ours were 28oz different. We were not given a very good out look on Jessy surviving till birth at all. I'm a total beleiver in bedrest, laying on the left side and drinking lots of ensure!

The couch an I are getting to know each other intimately!!!! When the nurse came yesterday she said things looked good. She did talk about there are no studies to show the bedrest will make a difference but they feel it is possible and certainly doesn't cause harm. They may change things when I see the Dr. in a couple days. It really is a day by day, week by week life that I am living now. I am lucky I don't have other children that require my attention and have a fabulous husband.

    Bring on the soap operas:)
