I think I have the "dreaded" PUPPS rash-and it bites! I have already called my dr and she said I could use the usual things that I already guessed. I am miserable and need some "company"....anyone else have this right now? On my arms and legs....just trying not to scratch.

uugh! I had PUPPS around then in my pregnancy. It did end up getting quite bad (understatement of the year!)....and they docs decided to put me on an oral steroid taper pack when it was clear the steroid cream was not controlling it (it had spread from my belly to my arms and legs to between my fingers and toes !). That worked wonders and thankfully I made it to 35 wks 6 days. If it had not the stress of it would have surely made me go much earlier! There isn't really much that helped me....oatmeal baths & ice packs were about as good as it got. The sarnia cream helped for about 2 seconds. The first thing you need to do is cut your nails off.....DO NOT SCRATCH! The docs also had me taking benadryl around the clock and later prescribed hydrazine...needless to say I was a zombie! I also used this STINKY soap called pine tar soap. I'm not sure it helped but I swear I can still smell it in my shower some mornings (11 months later...)
Hang in there and just try to stay relaxed and calm and avoid the itching frenzy!
Oh, yeah...it usually flairs again after the birth but then it is gone for good and from what I have read it does not usually happen again!

I'll commiserate too- I have it on my stomach, my thighs and my fingers- it's ridiculous! The worst part of it on my stomach is when it itches in the areas where my skin is "numb"...my doc doesn't want to prescribe anything b/c he doesn't think it's bad enough. In the meantime, I'm going against his recommendation and occasionally using hot water to relieve some of the itching while I'm in the shower- it's heaven!! ;)

Hope you feel better soon- I've only got a week until I deliver, but I'm glad the pp noted the reoccurrence after delivering...not something I knew!

Hey, I can sooooo commiserate with you! I developed the rash over the easter weekend so had to wait 4 days before my doctors reopened to get an appointment. So happy to say that the rash has almost completely gone now and i'm due to deliver in a week. Any kinda of cream is soothing, and they gave me a prescription for piriton which i took every 4 hours to the minute. The piriton didn't completely get rid of the itching but it did take the edge off of it, and the cream helped with the rest of the itching. I found, especially at the beginning where I had nothing to help, that a lot of it was mental. Do not itch and use all your mental energy to ignore it!! and again.... do not itch!! i know everyone's told you that a million times but it really is true - it's like a domino effect. if you even slightly itch it sets all the areas of the rash off!
    hope that helps!

thank you so much ladies for just some encouragement! After 3 days of itching and it spreading more and more I am going to see my ob this morning just hoping she can give me something to soothe it- I have tried all the over the counter stuff-and I wake up in the middle of the night clawing at my skin- not good!

At this point I just need some support from ya'll!
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Ha! I have seriously blocked most of my memories of PUPPPs but I just remembered this website. This truley miserable woman documented every last remedy KNOWN TO MAN and how well worked. That's where I got the idea of the pine tar soap!

It is at least good for a laugh!

Oh wow, I feel so bad for you. I had that too when I was pregnant. The ironic thing is I got it the week before I delivered, and it got worse for the week after I delivered (combined with the serious puff ball swelling) and then it disappeared completely. I had it all over my stretch marks, on the soles of my feet, in between my toes, around my ankles...ok you name it, I had it. The good thing is it does disappear, although it is the most miserable thing on earth. I was given the steroid pills too, they didn't do a thing. The only thing that helped was ice. I tried to avoid icing my stomach though because of the babies (pre delivery) but ice on my feet was sweet relief.

Big hugs, just think of your babies, they'll owe you big time and you can hold this over their heads when they're teenagers!! Kidding.

OOO ME!!!! I have it on my hands, boobs, nipples, tummy, legs, just about everywhere but my face. The worse places are my hands, boobs, and tummy.. And like someone else said, getting in the shower--warm almost hot one, and scratching like mad really helps, especially with a soft scrubbie.. When I get the itchies I hop in the shower no matter what time of night(1am or 5am) it is. Also my doc allowed me to use benadryl when necessary and also hydrocortisone cream, I went the extra mile and got the aloe vera anti itch generic kind from walgreens..... Ive had pupps for about a month or 2 now, its almost like it gets worse the farther I get along. Some days are better than others. Im sorry hunny. Mine usually attacks at night. But during the day the bad part is when I scratch my boob (by habit) while talking to someone or in the line getting lunch.
