Pullups, Goodnights, or Diapers?

My four year old girls have been daytime potty trained for more than two years. One has been night time trained for a year, but my other girl is no where close. She pees so much at night that she frequently leaks out the sides of her size 5 diaper. I've tried waking her when we go to bed, but she still pees all over the place by morning. Is there a better night time solution than a regular diaper?

I was just looking at Amazon and found regular pullups, something called Goodnights (which might just be fancy pullups), and something else called Overnights that is maybe a thicker diaper. I'm so confused!

Piper is only about 32 pounds, in case that makes a difference in what you recommend. She would very much like to be able to take her own night time bottoms off herself so she can pee in the middle of the night if she wakes up, so I'm inclined to go with pull-ups. But before I place the order, I wanted to ask you ladies what works for your older kids who still need a diaper like thing at night.

    Thanks!

There are nighttime pullups. I've always found the nighttime versions of diapers and pullups to be more absorbent.

As far as a diaper goes Huggies makes a night time diaper that we used until we started potty training, Huggies night diapers, and we never had any leaks with DS or DD for 1-1/2 years. We had to stop using them because DD outgrew the size 6 and that is the largest they have. You might want to try a size 6. Our doctor told us to take the maximum weight listed and subtract 5 lbs. for the true weight before leaks.

I've used the nighttime pullups & diapers and I put a maxi pad in there for extra protection because my kids still leaked out of the pull up & diaper. I have not tried Goodnights, so I don't know how well they work.

Goodnights worked much better for us then overnight pullups.

I saw this topic in the main list and thought I might be able to help. I have a 10 year old dd who has medical issues with nighttime training. It is only now that she is able to go more than one night dry. I also have a niece with similar issues who was 12 before she consistantly dry at night.

We use goodnights, or pampers underjams. They work well, and rarely does she wake up with a wet bed. I made the choice to use the overnight pullups with her because this way she can still go to sleepovers, with out worrying about being wet.

I hope that helps you with your decision.

The overnights definitely hold more, but a bigger size diaper will work as well.

My two are not night trained yet and are 31 and 35 pounds and tee-tee gallons at night. What I have found that will not leak, after tons of trial-and-error, is a size 6 Huggies overnight diaper with an Always overnight maxi pad without wings (orange wrappers) here. This specific pad is the key. I've tried other cheaper brands of pads including generics and I had leaks with all of them. I would think that an overnight pull-up with this pad would work also and she could manage potty trips herself. Mine are in cribs, so I haven't gotten to that stage yet.

    Good luck!

Sarah uses Huggies Overnights pullups. Although A&S are almost 6, the size 3T/4T fits her fine. (I think she has a tiny butt! She also only weighs 36 lbs.) And it only leaks if she is lazy and pees in it after she wakes up in the morning.

I think she is peeing slightly less at night than she used to, but we rarely had leaks even a year or two ago.

I bought Goodnights once when Target was out of Huggies. I think they are for older kids. I bought the smallest size, but they were still too big and they leaked.

Hi, my DS used to always be soaked in the morning. I switched to Huggies Overnight diapers. Plus I add a Select Kids "Diaper Booster Pad." I bought them at Babies R Us. $3.50 for a pack of 30. I tried to use maxi pads, but the diaper pads worked better. It is a flow through pad, so it seemed to contain it in the diaper better. GL!
