it's approaching finger food time for my girls (maybe i should have started already, but we only bought the highchairs yesterday ...). i keep reading about giving them cheerios or puffs. i don't live in the USA, but we can get hold of both types of cereal over here and i'm sure they'd enjoy them when they're ready.

however i have a question: do the ones you buy for your little ones over in the USA contain sugar? i've scanned the entire cereal aisle and can't see any other baby friendly cereal which doesn't contain sugar. is this ok for the babies teeth (or tooth for one of ours)?

    TIA

Here are the puffs that everyone is talking about. They are great!! They dissolve quickly and are easy to "gum", if your babies don't have a lot of teeth! Cheerios are fine too, the Puffs dissolve more quickly. [IMG]

I rarely allow my guys to have sugar, so instead of puffs and cheerios I give them plain puffed wheat - it is also much cheaper! Another idea is little pieces of plain rice cakes. I have friends that give the whole rice cake, but that always made me nervous.
In the begginning I soaked all finger foods in a little bit of breastmilk to soften them up. Also, if you roll bits of cooked fruit, avacado or bananas in wheat germ, they can pick it up easier.

    HTH!

my understanding is there is very little sugar in Cheerios and they are 100% whole grain

I was going to say the same thing. When we first started giving puffs and cheerios we broke them in half. The puffs really do dissilve better than cheerios do, so I would do those first. I didn't realize this as puffs are new since my oldest was a baby and found this out at their 9 month appt. They are both very easy to pick up too.

duh! and here's me thinking 'puffs' referred to puffed wheat cereal ... and thanks to that link Becky i now know what wagon wheels are as well (in england, when i was a child, there were these large chocolate coated biscuits called wagon wheels and i was a bit confused when pp referred to them on this site!
