I went to my son's wrestling event yesterday, and wanted to take the girls for the 1st time. We have been potty training for 6 months, and are doing well. I still have my girls in pull ups when I leave the house. Their first time in a public restroom, it took 3 trips to the bathroom, before Brooke would even get on. She also wouldn't let me assist her getting on or help reposition her when she was up. She peed on her dress, but at least we made it up and off. Erin wouldn't attempt it, and just settled for her peeing in her pull ups. The toilet cover's I used also fell in the toilet, so I got to retrieve it and get my hands wet, as well as, the girls were touching everything! I hope it gets better!

public bathrooms are frustrating. You just don't know whats lurking and little hands want to touch everything!! UGH! Good for you for at least attempting it and getting out. :good:

It might be worth it to carry the little foldable seat that you can put over the toilet and it fits in the diaper bag. So much to think about!!!

We also are using one of the folding seats when out. I also got a portable one for the car from One Step Ahead. We used it today in a parking lot.

We also used the fold up seat for a while. It worked well for us.

We have the foldable seat too, and it's a life saver. Expecially cause the public bathrooms all have the HUGE open toilet seats. I swear when we go in the potty all you hear from me is "don't touch that"!

I also use the handicap stall if it's available. It al least gives you alittle room to move around in the stall.

(and please don't berate me for using the handicap stall, I never do it if there is a handicap person waiting, and on the few times one has come in while we're in there, I hurry the girls. :) )

iim scared shes going to fall in the toilet..

    lol.. so we havent started...

i need product ideas:) links please

Both of mine have fallen in toilets before. You get over it. You just clean them off with a wipe, and away you go. But they'll probably tell the whole world when you get back out of the birthday. Nothing makes you prouder than when you get back the dinner table and your kid anounches "grandma, i fall in potty and get all wet". LOL

When we potty trained Emily, we went cold turkey. She bought underwear with a character she liked and would not want to pee on. We took lots of clothes for the many accidents that layed ahead. We tried a fold up toilet seat but it pinched her so out that went and we just took a kid soft toilet seat. Kids want to not be hurt and not fall in the toilet so we took the good toilet cover. I didn't care who saw me walking around with it...we have all been there.

When potty training you need to be nonchalant about the accidents but offer gentle advice for next time and extremely joyous about anouncing to everyone and anyone over and over when the child triumphes. Rewards help too. Something the kid can look forward to and work towards. Play up the successes, practically ignor and play down the accidents. Make it fun and make it a game.

    Absolutely, no pressure.
