Hey gals! At almost 30 weeks, I am freaking out about going into PTL. I have had no signs, not even a BH contraction this entire pregnancy, so I should count myself lucky I guess. I have had a ton of round ligament and pelvic pain, but otherwise, it's been pretty smooth sailing. I just wondered if any of you who have had to deal with ptl had signs beforehand (either a few hours or a few days before) or did it just come on suddenly? Thanks!
I had no warning. I started having them one evening when I was 30wk4d and was in L&D withing a couple of hours (they were 7min apart and very regular). I spent 11 days in the hospital and was released on bedrest and a terb pump. Obviously you need to be smart and take precautions - drinking enough water, empty your bladder frequently, get plenty of rest, etc. But, I wouldn't waste precious moments of your pg wondering if/when PTL might happen for you. Lots of women never experience PTL with their twin pg.
Nope no warning at all. I was feeling great and still working part-time and went to a routine OB appt. and found out my cervix was short (it was nice and long 3.5 weeks before that), I was 2cm dilated, and there was a foot there. :icon_eek: Talk about shocked!!! They sent me to the hospital to see if I was having contractions, I told them I wasn't, I didn't feel anything and felt great, and sure enough once I was hooked up it said I was having contractions. :unknw: I was not considered high risk except for the fact I was having twins. My oldest DD was a week late with no PTL, so it was totally unexpected.
Yes, I definitely had signs. At 26 weeks my cervix shortened to 3 cm and was told to take it easy and stop working. At 30 weeks my cervix had shortened to 1 cm, and I had uterine irritability (this feels like the babies bunching up or just sections of the uterus getting hard). So I was put on bedrest. The day before I delivered I had a really bad backache. Then at 4am I lost the mucous plug, and delivered dd at 2:22pm and ds at 2:25pm by vaginal delivery. Just remember this was my experience and every woman is different (especially with twins).
Looking back, I remember that I was EXHAIUSTED for two days befoe my water broke at 33 weeks. I wasn't sleeping well to begin with, but I remember for two days feeling the most tired that I've ever felt in my life (until I had the twins, of course! ). I don't know if this was a "sign"- I didn't take it as one, but maybe it was. I was pretty surprised when my water broke, as I thought I was doing ok. But, like the pp said, try your best not to worry. Get plenty of rest and take good care of yourself. Don't push it and do too much!- It's not worth it! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
Sorry, I had no warning either. I had seen my OB on a Tuesday afternoon, everything was looking great. Then by Thursday out of the blue I started contracting; 1 an hour, then 2 and it worked itself up through the day until I was having 9 contractions an hour by the late afternoon. I ended up in the hospital over night, had 3 shots of terbutaline to stop the contractions and by the next morning was placed on bedrest. Luckily my cervix was only soft, but not dilating at that point. I was only 27 weeks. I agree with a PP, it's good to be aware of the possibility of complications arising with this pregnancy, but don't get too worked up about it. You just need to take the attitude that whatever happens will happen and you just deal with it if and when it comes. Take it easy, don't stress too much and drink lots of water. Congratulations on making it this far with no problems!!!!!!!
No warning, everything was discovered at a regular appointment. That is why it is important to have doc appointments more frequently as you get into the later stages of pregnancy. I was contracting every two mintutes, causing major cervical changes and I felt absolutely nothing but everything was picked up on the monitors. Things were perfect for me at one appointment and panic ensued at my next with me feeling absolutely the same at both.
Thank you for all your responses. I am trying to relax and just take things as they come, but it's so nervewracking. I guess there is always something to be paranoid about. I'm doing everything I can on this end, resting and drinking tons of water, so I guess it's not up to me, what will happen will happen!! I love this site, there is just so much support, I wish that there was a group hug smiley! Oh wait, there is, duh! :love0028:
I had diarrhea, that was my only warning. Of course, I didn't realize it was a warning until I told my peri and by then it was an upward battle to fight the PTL.
