Hey everyone...I went to the doc on Monday for my bi-monthly BPP and found out that my cervix had shortened to 2.4, I was 1.5cm dilated and contracting (I didn't even know!) I was admitted directly to L&D and put on Mag Sulfate, given the steroid shot and the antibiotics for Strep B until the cultures came back. I also was prepped for a c-section (my doc is very over cautious) in case my contractions didn't slow down/i stopped dilating. Tuesday afternoon, i was transferred to the perinatal unit for observation to see if my contractions continued to slow. I was discharged yesterday afternoon, no further dilation and still 1-2contractions per hour...I am now on bed rest, with hopes to make it to 35weeks! Back to the doctor on Monday for weekly checks now.

Did anyone experience something like this (early dilation due to twins?) Thanks!

I went into PTL at 24 weeks, was 2 cm dialated, 70% effaced and contracting every 3 mins. They were able to stop it, I was put on complete bed rest as well as contrax control meds, Adalat. I was hospitalized 5 times total for 1-2 weeks at a time. My boys were born at 37 weeks 1 day, so it can be done! Good luck

Last time, PTL started at about 23 +/- weeks and I was on bedrest until 35 weeks when I was induced.

I went into PTL at 24 weeks. My cervix dropped down to 6 mm and I almost delivered. They gave me mag sulfate, steroid shots and I started p 17 shots. Thankfully, I didn't deliver at that point. I was on strict BR at home with procardia every 4 hours. I was in an out of the hospital 5 times when my PTL started again. It was difficult, but we made it to 36 weeks and I delivered when I started pre-eclampsia. Let us know how your appt. goes tomorrow!!

I had PTL with my sons pg so with the twin pg I was put on home bedrest at 18 weeks. At 29 weeks I went into labor, did all the fun (not) drugs like mag, was dilated to 2, had a postive Fetal Fibrocin Test and was kept in hospital. I stayed there 5 weeks, made it to 34 for weeks and then went into labor again, they wouldnt stop the labor at 34 for weeks and I delilvered my girls. both had two weeks in the NICU and are doing good today. Listen to your doctors and your body, drink plenty of fliuds. I know bedrest is boring but its so worth it to minimize a NICU stay. Good luck.

Thanks Ladies! The doc visit went great! There was no further shortening of my cervix/dilation. I go back on Thursday to start bi-weekly NSTs. Thank you for all your encouragement!

Great News! Now just relax and take it easy...I had the same story as you...routine visit turned into a 5 day hospital stay, but at 32 wks. I was dialated & contracting. Mag drip, steroid shot..then home with Procardia every 4hrs. I made it to 38wks 3days (waiting for labor), ended up being induced.
Take full advantage of the rest, relax and let those babies keep on cookin'!
