I know I'm not into 2-4 yet, but my boys are showing interest in the potty, so I'd like to get them some to sit on and get things started. The past couple of nights before bath, I let them sit on the big toilet, but they are scared of falling in. I also realized that their penis' are not low enough to pee into the toilet. It's actually good they didn't pee or it probably would have gone all over me! Anyway, I'm clueless about boys.

What potty chairs worked best for your boys?

Any tips on not getting peed on?

    Thanks ladies!

We just use The First Years potties and we have the Baby Bjorn ones too. I also have an insert that fits right onto the big toilet. I just tell them to push "it" down. Good luck.

When I sit mine on the big potty, I scoot them back far enough that they are almost touching the back with their legs on both sides. They then hold the front of the potty and "watch". That makes them lean far enough forward that it actually goes down into the potty. Also, mine have a stool they stand on in front of the toilet and go standing up. They much prefer to go that way. And then, when in public, I just hold them up in front of it and they go...so no touching anything on public potties (well, until they have to poop anyway).

We have both potty seats/chairs and potty rings. We have the Sesame Street soft potty ring which is good because it has handles for them to hold onto. We also have the Fisher Price Potty on the Go which is excellent for traveling. We also like it because you can use almost any type of plastic bag and don't have to wash any containers, etc. It comes with it's own traveling case and very easy to use. It is even low enough that our DS has the option of standing on the ground and aiming instead of sitting down.

Our DS prefers to stand if possible so we have a stool in front of the regular toilets. If he needs to sit, we have the Sesame Street potty ring on it.

As for what to do when they prefer to sit all the time (or need to)...we just have our DS sit far back and "point it down." Whatever seat/ring/chair you decide to purchase just make sure that there is nothing that can harm him in that area. I've heard horror stories of certain body parts getting cut because there was something not smooth or even sharp.

That's exactly what I was worried about! I did buy a potty on the go from Babycenter.com when they were closing their store really cheap, but I'd like to have two of the same kind for the bathroom so they don't have to wait or argue over who is going first. I'm leaning toward the Bjorn ones, but saw some 3 step ones the other day. It's a stepstool/potty seat/potty chair. Might be worth the extra $.

I face them backwards on the big potty and it works for us.

I am training my son now and we have both one that sits on tops of the big potty (we have one with handles in our main bathroom and in our basement we have one with out) and I have a small one in my living room. These are the same ones I taught my girls on so I didn't buy anything special. When I sit him down on any of them I make sure he is far enough back and then I push his penis down and close his legs so it stays down. I have the problem of when he's done he jumps up and gets some on the seat almost every time.

I would probably hold off on buying two small ones until you see how they are doing. When I was training my girls I started off training both at the same time and they both liked sitting on the big potty and would usually wait for that one instead of using the little one. Also I ended up training only one because the other wasn't ready yet so I only really needed one potty.

We used the rings, but made sure they had a "cup" guard in the front--it was an attachment. That would cover their penis, and make sure they peed down.

This is exactly what I did with Trevor. And if he had clothes on, I would just have him lean forward a bit too and I hold his penis down so that it doesn't spray everywhere. Now he is starting to go standing up and seems to be enjoying it.

We've never used a potty chair, just the regular toilet. When my son started using the potty, we just told him to make sure he pushed his penis down. We've never had a problem - knock on wood.

We started with having Aidan push his penis down since the cup in the front of the seat didn't seem to be trustworthy. We found out rather quickly that he preferred standing up anyway.

    Good luck with training!
