I need to start PT my girls...they are SO ready, but I'm not (with a new baby around)...no time right now.

Question about sippy cups. Right now, they have access to them all day long...so I'm guessing I can't really continue that when they potty train b/c they will just pee all day long...lol.

So, when you PT, did you limit sippy cups to just meals, or just limit them to nothing after dinner? Please help!

I remember going through that!!!! I let them have their sippy cups during the day. I would put them on the potty about 45 min after they drank and see if they went. If they didn't go I would do it again 15 min later. I know it sounds like alot of work but if you keep doing that you can pretty much judge when they'll have to go. At least that worked for me. I also did not let them have anything to drink after dinner. If I did it was just a minimal amount. And- the rule is that they have to go potty before bedtime. They did great with staying dry during the day- not too many accidents. At night- they wore pull-ups. Alex stays dry during the night but Griffin still needs a pull-up. They just turned 6 and the pedi says not to worry. I don't let him drink anything and he goes before bed and we were even waking him up a couple of times during the night to go and he is still wet in the morning!!!! Very frustrating-for him and us. We hope he'll outgrow it. Oh- another tip-put elastic waist pants or shorts on them-that way it's easy for them to pull them down-thus avoiding the I couldn't get my pants down in time accident!!!! Good luck-hope this helps!!!

I read somewhere :search: that the more they drink during PT, the better since they will have more opportunity to go. I have recently started and have not changed their fluid intake. That said, they do not have free rein with the sippies... they have it at meals, snacks and if they ask.

Becky, I am not limiting. I am actually trying to get them to drink MORE during the day so they have more positive experiences on the potty! I haven't taken away their night time sippies, but Ali has been waking dry and Martin sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. I KNEW I was biting myself in the @$$ by letting them have them at night, but I do think there is a point (mine are over 3 - so...) where they can have a bit of water overnight without waking wet. If I have to, I'll fight that battle later!

I did just the opposite for potty training... I gave them as much of anything they wanted to drink all day long. Noah was in heaven-- he must have gone through 3 cans of decaf soda! But he also learned what the urge to pee felt like, and peed in the potty because he had to go a lot. LOL

As for times we've gone out, I haven't limited or pushed drinks. Just normal amounts. *knock on wood* We haven't had any accidents while we're out yet.

The only time we limited drinks was at night. Nothing after dinner was the rule to avoid bed wetting and it worked in our case. I hope that it goes smoothly Becky, keep us posted!
