I am almost 13 weeks and am wondering how much protein I should be eating and when i need to be getting this extra protein. I had heard it was in the last trimester. Does anyone know??

    At least 100g throughout pregnancy.
If you read Dr. Luke's respected book When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads, she actually recommends a whopping 176 g/day throughout pregnancy! It's a LOT ... but I will say, MOMs who follow her guidelines generally have impressive outcomes.

I've read 90 to 120 grams of protein a day from the very beginning. My OB advised definitely not less than 100 grams from the start. The most crucial time for weight gain is the 1st & 2nd trimester, due to the pre-term risk. I'm sure there may be variations out there, but I wouldn't wait until the last trimester to increase your protein intake.

I tried to eat lots of extra protein throughout my whole pregnancy (sort of following the guidelines in Dr. Luke's book, but also because I felt low-blood-sugar-y and hungry nearly all the time, and eating lots of protein seemed to help). Fortunately I never had serious nausea issues and could eat meat, but I also ate tons of nuts and yogurt. And I drank milkshakes with whey protein powder mixed in.

Yikes, I don't think I've been getting that much, more like 70-80. I better start doing a better job. I'm a lacto-ovo-pescetarian - meaning I eat fish, dairy and eggs, but no other meat. I won't jeopardize the babies if I need to eat meat to get enough, but I'm pretty sure I can get 100 without doing it. I'm in love with yogurt lately :) I need to read that Barbara Luke book, I keep hearing good things about it.
