I've seen a lot of posts about twin moms drinking protein shakes/drinks to help with weight. I went to the store the other day and I could not believe how much sugar was in them  ! I had gestational diabetes with my daughter so I am watching my sugar and carb intake. I dont think drinking that much sugar would be a good idea for me. Does anyone know of other ways to get a lot of protein without all the sugar??? Or a drink that doesn't have as much sugar?

    Thanks!

Instead of drinking those drinks, I went to the site Eat Right For Your Blood Type and ordered the protein drink for my blood type. It has no added sugar so you can mix it with what you want. I also found that it worked better for me than the whey protein since I guess " type O" shouldn't have whey protein.

I hope this gives you another option.

You can always make fruit smoothies with protein powder (just make sure it's a quality protein powder). The fruit does contain sugar but at least it's natural sugar, and you can contain the amount by choosing the right fruits (e.g. Bananas have a TON of sugar).

I much prefer fresh smoothies to canned drinks!

    Good luck :)

Thats what I did. The powder I used only had about 10g carbs I believe and was all natural. Blended w/ a little milk, ice, and some mixed berries (they're lo-carb), I really grew to like them.

Another option is the Glucose Control Boost, but I personally limited use of those since they have artificial sweeteners...good in a pinch, tho.

Sorry, this too is a protein powder not drink. You mix it with what you want to mix it with.

Thanks everyone! I may try the Glucose Control Boost or the powder protein.

I have a protein drink mix that has sucralose and stevia in it. It's pretty good but stevia has not been tested during pregnancy. So I agree, the plain protein powder is the way to go.

i would go with the glucerna premixed drinks (like ensure) or the boost glucose control like some of the others have mentioned. i have GD too and that's what i have been doing.

I used a high quality whey protein powder from Whole Foods. The only thing in the powder was protein... not all that added sugar and chemicals like Boost and Ensure. I could make any flavor I wanted (my favorite was vanilla ice cream, frozen strawberries, canned pumpkin and protein powder). And, I got 20 grams of protein in each shake whereas Boost/Ensure only had 9 or something like that. I know that Boost and Ensure are better than nothing, but I really think the natural protein powders are so much better.
