About 2 months ago, my DS Conner started projectile vomiting during a bottle every day or so. It was usually his afternoon bottle (thankfully, or daycare would've sent him home). He wasn't sick & after a good week or so of it, I took him to the Ped. His thought, at that time, was that he had lingering RSV & that the mucous was still draining down the back of his throat to make him gaggy. It explained why he wasn't throwing up with every bottle & I was reassured that he should get better & that his weight gain was right on track.

Fast forward to yesterday. He did the SAME thing he used to do; pushed the bottle out of his mouth & projectile vomited EVERYWHERE. Ugh. It was at his afternoon bottle (his 2:30pm one). He hadn't eaten since 12:30pm with a solid 1 1/2 hr nap in between. I cleaned him up & offered some more of the bottle (which he used to then take before) & he refused. He took his night time bottle & 2 morning bottles just fine today. He's also eating his solids perfectly fine.

This afternoon, again with his 2:30 bottle, he did the SAME thing. This time it was a little less puke, but still a good amount. When he was done, he smiled at me & started babbling. So it's not like he FEELS crummy. He's been in a good mood all day & slept well. I just don't get it.

My poor couch. And me. I'm so sick of getting puked all over. Spit up I can handle, but this...ewww!

Anyone have any ideas as to what's bothering him? He had the flu (or rotavirus, not sure...never tested) 2 weeks ago & has been fine for over a week. We introduced Mango 3 days ago & he's had it daily for breakfast...could that be it? I wouldn't think that breakfast would effect his afternoon bottle & his stools have been fine. I won't give him Mango tomorrow, just to see, but I'm thinking that's a far fetched connection.

Looking for anyone with any thoughts. I hate to take him to the Ped to be told he's fine & it'll go away :). I doubt this is a 'phase' kids go through.....

One of my girls does this as well & we found out it was supposedly caused by acid reflux.
We put her on some med for it & make sure that she burps really good during bottles as well as keep her a little bit more upright after feedings for about a half an hour or so :)
    projectile is the WORSTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!

He used to be treated for reflux, but has been off meds for about 4 months now.

Talk about frustrating, but thanks for your concern :)!

Maybe he is getting too much food? If he ate 2 hours previous, then he may still be full.

My DS is doing the same EXACT thing. I've been told it's all due to reflux..Which he has always had, and severely. It wavers...One week, he'll be fine, then another week, he'll be doing exactly what your son is doing (always during the bottle with no warning, it'll come out, even sometimes as he is still sucking!) And it'll be A LOT. The whole bottle will come flying out of his mouth in the projectile manner. I have made an appt. with a really good GI (not like our last incompetant one), but the wait time to get in the door is 3 months...He wants to do a Gastric Emptying Test for Delayed Gastric Emptying and to repeat the Upper GI study for reflux. But we have to wait until May to get this done :( So I am just dealing with it for now :( Good luck!

Oh, and by the way, my DS is 10 months old (yes, and still dealing with reflux, ugh...It did not get better around 6 months like everyone promised! In fact, I think it got WORSE!)

My sons were both tested for a puloric stenosis (no idea if I spelled that right) but it doesn't allow food/liquids to properly empty into their stomach so it comes back up out of the mouth. Apparently it is much more common in boys. Just an idea?

Oh, and if that is what it is, I beleive it is easily treatable. Don't know the details - both of my boys tested negative.

My DS does this, probably about every 4 days or so, except it tends to be his noon bottle. He was on reflux meds back at 3 months, but they didn't help, so we took him off of them. What sometimes helps for him is to stop him halfway through the bottle and burp him, it seems like the faster he guzzles the more likely he is to lose the whole bottle. He gets really mad to be stopped though. You can try cutting out the mango, but I doubt that it will help. I've had extensive talks with my pedi about this, she thinks that when he starts walking and therefore being upright more that the puking will stop, but in the meantime there is not much to do.

I know how awful it is, especially once you add in solids and you have 7 ounces of green puke coming back up at you (that was my day yesterday).

I thought we were in the clear today until the night time bottle. He took 2 1/2 oz & fell asleep. He kept lazily sucking, so I just sat there with him & let him eat. Then I saw a bunch of formula drool out of his mouth so I took the bottle out (he tends to drool it out a lot when he's bored, full, or sleeping). I sat him up to burp him & he was still asleep. Then BAM! Blech. So, I sat him on the floor to go get him new pjs (and wipe off my arm, yuck), which got him really upset. He was crying, but not hard enough to make himself throw up. I picked him up to get his legs out of his pjs & he threw up again. And then again. ALL over our floor. Poor thing. He was whiney & crying (but who wouldn't after all that yuck just came out his nose?) but then was fine. Smiling, babbling, alert & looking around. I rocked him for a few mins & then offered him the bottle again (figuring his belly was empty). He took an oz & then refused, so off to bed he went! He didn't throw up in his crib & is sound asleep, so who knows.

He did have a bigger dinner so I'm wondering if he just didn't over eat by eating while sleeping. Our Ped said he'll probably always be a 'gaggy' baby, so I'm hoping that's all it was today. He didn't get ANY mango, so I know that wasn't it.

If it continues, we'll probably just schedule their 9 mo appt early & go in. I'm just so frustrated! Thankfully dinner was turkey veg & tutti fruiti, so it was more of an orangy spew than green :)!

Thanks for all the responses! I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one out there with a dormant volcano that can erupt at any time!

My son had pyloric stenosis and had surgery at 6 weeks. It's most common in first born males and usually occurs around 3-6 weeks after birth. It is sudden onset projectile vomiting and gets increasing worse in a short period of time. So it's probably not that!

I would guess that it's probably reflux. Reflux can recur in babies, so I would call your pedi about it and see if putting him back on the meds helps!
