Is anyone taking Prilosec for heartburn during their pregnancy? I have pre-existing acid reflux that was controlled with Prilosec but with my first pregnancy and this one, I stopped Prilosec and started Zantac instead. I still have heartburn everyday and have to take Tums at least 2-3 times a day to stay comfortable. My OB has said it is ok to take Prilosec but I worry because there isn't a lot of research behind it's use during pregnancy.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Iam not quite sure, but during my first pregnance, my OB told me not to take prilosec. She prescribed proton pump inhibitor.

During both of my pregnancies, I was told to go off the Prilosec for the duration. I took Zantac, Tums, etc. I bought the Walmart version of Zantac (much cheaper) and took a few each day. (One in the AM, one at lunch, one at night). I kept Tums by my bed for nighttime heartburn.

I also have pre-existing reflux ever since my dd's pregnancy. With her I was put on prevacid during pregnancy.

After I had her I was using zantac and it was working okay, but once I got pregnant this time the zantac stopped working. My ob told me to try zantac AND prilosec together, but since I had previously tried the prilosec and it didn't work, he went ahead and gave me a script for nexium.

So, no I haven't used prilosec, but yes my ob prescribed it for this time. The only reason I'm not using it is because it didn't work pre-pregnancy.

Nexium is amazing stuff, one pill a day and I haven't used rolaids or tums in months! :D

Since I have been in the hospital laying down for 23 days now my reflux has been ridiculous. My OB has started me on Protonix and it has been great! Good luck!
