One of my girls has been prescribed prilosec in liquid form. I try to give it to her with a 5 ml syringe and most of it pools out of her mouth.

If you're giving your babies liquid meds how do you do it as to get most of it in? As of now I see no improvement in eating and it's probably because she's not getting enough.

When I was giving my ds liquid form of Prilosec, I had to use a smaller syringe. I couldn't use the one the pharmacy gave us because it was HUGE! Also, I made sure I had it put against his cheek and squirt it in that way. It went down smoother for him and didn't make him gag or give him a chance to spit it out. How long has your little girl been on the meds? I would give them at least one week before you see improvement. My ds did okay on the prilosec liquid, but did great on the prilosec pill. That was easy to give too. Good luck, I hope you see improvement soon. :hug99:

We have always given DS his meds in a bottle with a little bit of milk. We start off a feeding like that and it insures that he takes it all and then we give him his bottle. I've also given him antibiotics like this as well.

If you are exclusively nursing I could see the problem with doing it this way. We do the same thing with DD when we had to give her antibiotic. I've even given tylenol this way in desperation when they were sick and DD kept spitting every dropper of tylenol back out at me.

HTH! DS was on Prilosec for a bit and I think it worked well for him. We ended up switching to Protonix because it is free with my insurance. It seems to be working really well. The Ped wants us to taper meds to wean and see if he still needs it, but I'm afraid to try.

We mix Prilosec in with a full bottle. The compounded Prilosec tastes awful (very very bitter) and my daughter won't take it unless it's disguised. She would gag and puke when I used a syringe and refused a bottle with just a little milk in it. I used to mix it in with 7 oz of EBM and now that she's on formula we do the same. I just make sure to give it with a meal I know she'll finish so that she gets all of the medicine.

    Good luck!

We also had a lot of trouble with Prilosec in the liquid form because it tasted so bad - they were fine with other meds from a syringe. Never did figure out a solution. If we mixed it with milk they wouldn't drink it. If we gave it straight they would spit up the meds and anything else that was in their tummies (which defeated the purpose of reflux meds . . .) Eventually they were switched to Prevacid solutab, which worked much better, but I think they can't take it until they turn 1 (but you might ask about it).

Sorry, I know that's not helpful to you now, but that's the way it goes. If you take a little taste of the Prilosec you'll understand the problem (I always tasted all of our many many meds . . .)

We were on Zantac and the smell was awful, so I could only imagine the taste! Like a PP mentioned, we put it in their bottles so we made sure they took it all.

Molly is on Axid (for reflux) and Amoxicillin right now. I put the meds in a nipple - not in a whole bottle. She sucks it right down. Then I chase it with a bottle full of milk.
