Hi ladies...my Danny started taking this and we were told it's only available in dissolvable tablet form (not liquid). He was prescribed only 1/2 a tablet and it crumbles when we break it in half (even using a bonafide pill splitter, I guess b/c it's dissolvable). Also, his GI said the best way to administer it is dissovled into formula on an infant spoon. Does anyone have any better methods of doing the above?

Also, different subject, when setting my new ticker I could not find the multiples option, does anyone know what I might be missing?

    Thanks!

You can get prevacid in a liquid form - but only some pharmacies make it - usually ones in a hospital will - it doesn't last as long, and has to be kept in the fridge - but it's all we used for the 6mos. they were on it - and it worked just fine - I'd call around idfferent pharmacies and see who can premake it as a liquid for you...

mine are on Prevacid as well. I snap the pill in half with my fingers, or I use a sharp knife. Every once in awhile, it does crumble a bit, but I find that using my fingers to snap it in half, putting pressure behind both halves with my fingers works well. If it does crumble, I try to make sure each twin gets an equal amounts of pieces. In the beginning, though, I would snap it in half, and dissolve it in a bit of warm water on a baby spoon, and then put it in their mouths...but I kept the spoon in their mouths for a few seconds to make sure they sucked on it and everything went down. Now, I just push the half of pill into the back corner of their mouths, but I keep an eye on them in case they try to push it out with their tongues. Usually though, it does not happen because by the time they figure out how to use their tongue to manipulate that tiny pill, it has dissolved and then they are swallowing.

It does tend to crumble. At that age, I put it on a spoon like the ped told you to do. Now I just give it to him and he chews it up.

As far as the ticker goes, I believe at Lillypie when you are selecting the marker, there is a tab at the top that you click that says twins, trips or more.

We also used the tablets. I had a pill cutter that did a pretty good job cutting them in 1/2 but had the ocassional one that would break. We also did ours in a spoon like your Pedi recommended. We tried drawing it up in a stopper or syringe but it always stuck to the sides. The spoon did do best for us and after a while was pretty easy. At first it took some getting used to on our part and the twins but after a few days we had it down. The boys would see the spoon coming and open up [IMG] Don't try to do it with the really small baby spoons. We always spilled it this way. We used the plastic toddler spoons or a regular spoon so it would actually hold the water.

Our GI specialist prescribed the suspension (liquid form). Only 24 hour pharmacies make it, and it has to be made overnight. It comes in a little bottle. We started with 2 ml once a day and we're now doing 2 ml twice a day, half hour before a feeding. My GI specialist gave me the "instructions" for the pharmacie but they were familiair ... let me know, I can mail them to you ... (I would have to retype it or sent you a copy by mail).

Only negative, it only works for 2 weeks so make sure they'll never give you more than a 2 week supply. It has to be refridgerated as well.

We also used prevacid solutabs. Like Stephe I had a pill cutter, get one it works great, got mine at CVS, it is a must!!! I would cut the tablet in 1/2 (they each got 1/2 tablet) and put the 1/2 tablet in a syringe and would fill the syrine with 4 mls of water, swirl it around and then syringe it in their mouths. You have to put a little in their mouths each time and swirl it around before you put it back in their mouths to be sure to get all the little granuals. If there were still granuals left I would put more water in and do it again. It gets easier the more you do it.

I agree with the pp. We were told to dissolve the 1/2 pill in 4 mls of water since they were 5 weeks old. We have the "Walgreens" version of the pill cutter and for the most part will cut them in half. Maybe one out of 5 crumbles a bit. Then swirling the syringe is a must to get all of the medicine down the hatch.

We have been using the Prevacid granules since they were two months. All you do is mix the powder with an 1 oz. water in a bottle and mine would drink it down. Of course we had to cross cut the nipple. Now they take it from a syringe.
