Prevacid solutabs?

I saw someone mention this in another thread and I'd like some more information. Karina is on a Prevacid solution that the pharmacist mixes by emptying capsules and grinding the contents. Karina is on the top dose for her weight (3 ml) and is still in a lot of pain at feeding time. She starts off eating fine, but when some of it comes up again, it hurts and then she won't have anything more to do with the breast or bottle and just screams. It's heartbreaking. Can someone please tell me more about this solutab. Does it really work better than the liquid? How do you give it to a baby? Do you dissolve it first?

    I have the solutab.
I put the pill in the syringe and then pull 4ml of water into it and it disolves in less than 2mins, then I just pull another ml of water into it after to make sure we got it all.
My daughter loves it because it is strawberry flavored. She puckers and kicks her feet when she sees the syringe!

I break the pill in half and put it in their cheek. It dissolves really fast.

In my opinion it works way better than the compound as the compounded solution did not work for us at all and the solutabs sure do!

I also break it in half and put it in their cheek. Then I use a syringe to squirt water in their mouth to help it dissolve. It's worked great for my boys.

The solutabs were a lifesaver for us too! We would draw water into the syringe to dissolve it, and boy did she love it!

I'm so excited that we successfully weened her off her meds this months, but I think she misses them because she gets super excited when I have to give her Motrin or something else for teething!!

Best of luck - reflux is tough!

We had the solutabs, too. Ace took 1/2 a tab a day, so I cut it in half, put a few drops of water on a spoon and put the solutab in. It dissolves right away, and I just spoon fed it to him. I found that syringes and bottles were a PITA as they just clogged up.

However, we've since switched to liquid Zantac and he has had much better results with it.

I also found the diluting in a syringe to be a PITA. I would crush the solutab into itty bitty pieces and finger it in and wash it down with a little bit of water at a time. This worked really well for us.

My twin boy has been on the solution. It's supposed to be stable for 14 days, but in my son's case he went downhill after 10-11 days and then it took another few days for him to get back on track with the new solution. He started spitting up blood too. That's when the GI specialist decided the solution wasn't stable enough, even for the 14 days, and she switched him to solutabs at 4 months. He stayed on until 9 months. Never spit up blood again, no more screaming and pain, though still spit up, but nothing major and nothing I couldn't deal with (my first was a major happy spitter).

Sounds to me that the solution isn't stable enough for your little one either. Do you see a change over time once the solution gets older. For me that was very clear ... he was fine for 10-11 days and that was it (but I had solution for 14 and couldn't get another refill until then). My GI specialist always had to specifically mention not to give for 30 days (that's what insurance preferred) but that was absolutely worthless since GI specialist already agree that 14 days max is best).

I also broke it into tiny pieces, put it in their cheek, and squirted some water in with a syringe.
