My girls are both on prevacid. Am I the only one with problems getting all the little "beads" out of the syringe? They're too young to just let it dissolve in their mouths.

I administer it with 4 ccs of water (as directed) and then draw up more water (2 ccs) but there is still some left when I'm finished. I've also tried flushing the syringe with water and collecting it in a bottle lid but usually that doesn't work either. Are they getting enough, or do they need to get all the little beads?

    Thanks!

Oh I guess our meds were "predissolved" but my girls were on Zantac. Try using a Med. DROPPER rather than the syringe... let them suck it out of the dropper. We had to with Ashley otherwise she spit out every drop out of a syringe.

Hey there - we just use more water to make sure our son gets it all....

I have the same problem. I just do the best I can by drawing up more water into the syringe. I've tried a dropper, and it's a disaster because if you don't hold it just right, it leaks out - so I switched back to the syringe and take my chances that she is getting enough! Some days I don't realize how much we missed until washing the syringe and see the dried up beads!

Good Luck, sorry I have no advice, only empathy!

At 4 months, I was breaking it up into tiny pieces and giving it to them in their cheeks, and then giving them a little water with the syringe. It dissolves really quickly. I never could get it to come out of the syringe right.

I hold the prevacid in my fingers and hold it in their mouth until it has dissolved. This has worked for us - but now it's getting a little touchy because they have teeth. It's beginning to be a little painful now on my part. Nana's fingers are becoming their teething ring.

I had the same exact problem and the same age and i wound up just putting the peices in their mouth into the corner of their cheeks and it did disolve. If necessary stick the paci in after. Also, It CAN be compounded into a liquid form. When we went to the pedi. GI doc, their dose was in between pill amts so he had it compounded into a liquid. I personally found it easier to stick the solutab under the tounge than trying to give the liquid though...

It sounds like you have the granuals that are in individual packets. Thats what we had too and we also used a syringe. I remember there being a very small amount in the syringe but it was so small that it did not make a difference.

No we have the tablets that dissolve into little granuals.

Thanks for your help everyone! I think I'll try putting it directly in their mouths in small pieces and giving water with the syringe. I'm glad it's not just me with this problem....

This is probably "bad" but it works soooo well!

I discovered my method after many days of struggling to get all of the beads into his mouth.

I use a spoon (started out as one of those long plastic tube medicine spoons, but then we left it at a friend's house so now it's just a regular spoon...). I place the 1/2 tablet in the spoon then slowly drip water over it until it dissolves (2 oz because we only take half a tab per day). Then I just give it to Jake and he sucks the liquid right out of the spoon. I then take the syringe and rinse the remaining beads into his mouth. Works like a charm!

We started this at 2 1/2 months old.

We stick a 1/2 tab in his cheek-- no problem. I don't give water or anything, just stick his binky in. Works every time-- never had any problem.
