preterm question branch-off

    Good morning,
With all this talk about pre-term I have a question... Is it preterm if you dont get meds to stop and they go away on their own? When I have been admitted, they called it preterm, but then they monitored and eventually released me. The contractions just stopped. This past weekend I had really bad pains, swelling, faintness and I was seen and released. Today Im being admitted again because last night I had 3 hours of 15 min apart contractions but today just pain. The doctor calls all of this preterm and is sure Im going to "go" before 34 weeks, but Im confused... Can preterm start and stop on its own?

If your doctor is calling it preterm, then I suppose it is. I guess I would call it that too, based on what you described. What a pain for you to have to deal with that too!!!

Not that I am a doctor, but why doesn't he give you something to mature the lungs if he is sure you are going to pop in the next 3 weeks?

Well, have they checked your cervix? Preterm labor means that your having contractions that are causing dilation. If your cervix hasn't begun to dilate, they're only Braxton Hicks. Keep yourself hydrated and get plenty of rest. They should ease up.

  5. Apparently the contractions/pain were them moving down. Im effaced but not dialated. She is putting me in for 24 hrs on magnesium and tertuline?sp?? I was beginning to think I was going crazy with all these seemingly false alarms!
