I am 30 weeks and 4 days along and I went into sporadic labor on Friday night. I was having contractions every 3 to 5 minutes! I have had a very uneventful pregnancy thus far and was in shock when the contractions started. As of today, I am in the hospial on day 2 of a mag sulfate drip(yuck), 2 beta shots- 24 hours apart, and come to find out I have a UTI taboot!! My contractions have slowed to about one an hour, but that one HURTS!! I am also a fingertip dialated and 50% effaced. They will be taking me off the mag drip tonite around 10 pm and we are PRAYING that those contractions don't come back! The doctors are hoping I can walk out of here on Monday but just moving sets off contractions. Though the doctors assure me that the babies will be ok at this gestation with the full course of steroids, I am petrified to see them so small so soon. I'm hoping I can carry them for a few more weeks at least! If they were born soon they would be roughly 3lb 0oz and 2lb 13oz. It is so scarey because it is all becoming so real so fast! Any suggestions or stories to ease these scarey thoughts?

I wasn't put on hospital bedrest, but I started PTL at 24 wks and was put on bedrest until 35 wks when I delivered. They gave me a pill called terbutaline to stop the contractions but I was never dialated. I always heard that if you could make it to 33 wks or more, that is fantastic!! You only have a few more weeks until then! Everything will be fine!! :)

I went into PTL at 29 weeks and had to be induced at 37 weeks (for another problem).

Fingers crossed for you, hope all goes well.

I went into PTL at 27 weeks due to a full membrane rupture. The dr.s told me that there was no way I could carry more than 2 days. I carried for 3 more weeks, to everyones complete surprise, and my DS was born at exactly 30 weeks. He was 15 in and 3lbs. Although we did have a lengthy NICU tme, he is an absolutely perfect 7 year old now. So, there is definitely hope that you can carry your little munchkins for several more weeks, and if not, know that there are many, many success stories of babies born at 30 weeks. Stay positive! I wish you the absolute best.

I went into PTL about the same time, got the shots, and was given Procardia for the contractions. I also had a few UTI's while pregnant, and that alone can cause you to contract. I was able to(with strict bedrest) hold out to 37 weeks. Hang in there, it can be done.

The UTI could've been the cause, so maybe if they get that under control, things will hold out? It's amazing how long you could go even when the docs think differently. My cervix was 0.9 cm at 21 weeks, and I had to get an emergency cerclage. . . I was also having PTL-type symptoms, had TTTS with polyhydramnios, a history of dilating early. . . and the docs didn't think I'd get to 27 weeks. I got to 34w1d. And my guys were healthy and have done well.

Keep positive best you can and do what the docs recommend to keep those babes in. And should you have them now, I have met lots of healthy twins/multiples who were delivered around the same time, and did well. Hang in there!
