Okay, Grammy's been assigned more research ... :D

DD is looking at the various types of pressure-mounted baby gates. (They rent and do not want to permanently install gates.) She has three openings to her living room: a standard width hallway, a bedroom door, and a large opening to the kitchen (she hasn't measured yet but probably 70"-80" wide I think).

I've found a few brands/styles that would work well for them but thought I'd check in here and see if anyone has pros/cons about different types you've used.

    Thanks!

I love for our 60" wide opening this gate. with a 12.5" extension. This was the only pressure mounted gate that I could find that would go that wide. I think it says it'll fit openings up to 6'. They make both a 5.5" and a 12.5" extension, I found the 12.5" at limited online places, and the 5.5" all over.

It's been really easy to use and I like it a lot. However, we do have to check the pressure and tighten on occasion. BUT I think that's mainly from our lab who uses it as his personal hurdle system and sometimes catches his back toes on it when jumping over . The girls haven't seemed to be able to loosen it at all, even with the rattling of the jail cell dance!

I have this one in two of our doorways. I have to teach visitors how to use it, but other than that, I haven't had an problems.

I have the same gate as Chillers posted. I have been using them for years before I had my girls when I got my first dog. I love that they stay put and I can leave the doorway open when not in use. After having the girls when it was time to babyproof I bought two more to make sure everything was safe.

I have never had the need to extend them past one extension on each side and it was really easy to do. They are also very sturdy gates since my oldest one (5 years now) is still in use with no problems.

    We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Evenflo-SimpleEffort...c/dp/B000BH79TC
It's hands free, which means it comes with a remote you can mount on the wall or where ever. We used it with the remote for months, but never replaced the batteries when they went out. It was a LIFESAVER when they were smaller! Now we just push the button to open the gate. I like it alright. Sometimes I do wish that the opening was wider...or maybe that my hips were narrower. :p

    Edited because I can't spell!

I have the Kidco and love it. It's a very secure fit. And you can get one to fit just about any opening!
