Last summer I took my boys to some story times and some festivals, they were 2.5 almost 3. At the story times they would cling to me and at the festivals they would want to go on the rides but as soon as they got in they would get right back out and come running to me. In other words they were VERY shy. I decided to call around to some of the preschools just to see what was offered and found a great program for 2.5 year olds that was geared toward social skills. They talked me into it even though I was going to wait until the following year.

Well fast forward to today's preschool graduation ceremony. I dropped them off with the class expecting a complete meltdown by one or both since there were so many kids there. Well they were fine, in fact they were great. They stayed with the class, walked out into the gym, and sang their song in front of a huge room full of people. And they even went and sang the closing song with all the preschool kids. In fact, Michael raced to the back row with the rest of the kids and Matthew sat down right next to the teacher facing all the other kids and helped her direct the final song.

It was really awesome to see. I know the complete change isn't soley due to the preschool since 9 months makes a big difference but......I gotta believe it didn't hurt!

I am soooo proud of my little guys and they have so much more confidence. In fact, more than once I've heard them say..."See mom, I'm not shy no more."

I started my girls 1 month ago. I wasn't sure it was the right thing to do so early, but let me tell you. I keep waiting for the day that they are going to have a total meltdown when I leave and it just hasn't happened!! Today, I tried to give them a kiss and hug goodbye and they wouldn't even wait for it, they were off on their way. I'm so glad I did it, it makes me feel good! They have really learned alot, and potty training has really improved at our house!

I agree completely. We've had a wonderful experience with preschool this year!! They have learned so many things... many things I would have never thought to teach them. They are much more comfortable with other kids and adults than they were before. Our graduation ceremony is in a few weeks and I can't wait!!

My girls will be starting preschool in the Fall. We have some of the same "clinging" issues that you did. I hope we have a success story like yours. Thanks for the inspiration!!

We are going to start a one day a week early pre-school program in the fall. I hope we have similar success!

My oldest was super shy, and preschool helped her a lot, too. I'm hoping to get my middle girl into preschool this fall (waiting list right now). She is much more outgoing than my oldest was at her age. She'll have no problems.

It's good to hear preschool success stories. I plan on starting Carson and Anna Claire this fall and I am already dreading it terribly. I've never left them with anyone except family and I guess I am as clingy as they are at this point. It will probably be as good for me as it is for them. They will be three soon after they start. Anna Claire is very shy and reserved, and I would like for her to become more confident. Maybe it will help!
