I was wondering if any of you ladies have ever heard of before baby boost? I receive an email newsletter from a website called pregnancy without pounds and in the latest one she addressed 8 dangers in your prenatal vitamins. In the email there was a link to a prenatal vitamin and supplements called before baby boost. I was wondering if anyone had heard of this and if anyone had used these vitamins?

I'm not very internet savy but I will copy and past the link that was in the email if you want to check it out and give me your opinion. If it doesn't work you might have to type it into your browser.

    Thanks for any input.

I just read through the site (I'm not currently pregnant, but I do have a professional interest in health and fitness).

Some of what is said certainly makes sense - it's true that iron and calcium are best not taken together, it's true that most OBs recommend at least 800mcg of folic acid a day (prescription prenatals generally have 800-1200 though, so you don't generally have to worry about this)

However, this is one of many many products (well, "system") that is trying to convince you that there is information out there that your doctor doesn't want you to know (or in this case, perhaps just doesn't know him/herself).

While I wholly support the idea that a typical American diet of processed and packaged and fast foods is not going to be good for growing the healthiest baby possible, I feel that much of that can be rectified by eating a good diet. To me, the point of taking a prenatal vitamin (or a regular multivitamin when not pregnant) is just to make up for the holes in my diet - I do not expect my vitamin pill to give me everything I need a la The Jetsons.

I'd also be a little concerned that they're including herbal supplements right in with everything else. Yes, ginger is supposed to be good for morning sickness, but why not eat something with ginger when you need it? And I've never heard of Papain, and would definitely check it out before taking it, especially while pregnant.

The point is, this guy is telling you that he knows more than your Dr. because he has all these degrees . . . maybe he does, maybe he doesn't (just having the degree doesn't mean a whole lot). And he doesn't know YOU, (and hopefully your Dr. does).

I'm not saying this stuff is bad, I'm just saying that it sounds more like hype and someone trying to make a quick buck than a medical professional trying to give his best medical advice.

Might be worth showing to your OB, and seeing if he/she thinks any of the claims sound reasonable, and if so, can you change your diet/vitamin regimen without buying this product? (Omega 3s? Eat some fish!)

I have not heard about it before. But, I still will take my Prenatal Vitamins. I take extra calcium since I am allergice to milk, and am not worried about the iron since my blood levels are ok. My vitamins have a seperate omega 3 pill..., sounds like she is just selling something. I would just make sure the vitamins being taken are good quality!!

I dont know about this but I took a crap load of vitamins while pregnant.

I took 1 prenatal and 3 extra folic acid each morning.

For lunch I had a cocktail of Iron, fiber and Omega 3's.

For dinner I had a light meal of 3 calcium pills.

    Yummy!

    Grand total = 14 pills a day!

My pregnancy, c-section, and recovery were wonderful. My kids are bright and on target. I am happy I did what I could for them and myself!

    Tammy,

I'm just curious if you decided to take these extra pills on your own or was it something that your doctor recommended? Since this is my first pregnancy I haven't done anything outside the doctor's recommendations and I haven't taken anything but the prenatal vitamin that he prescirbed. I may be over precautious because this is my first go around but I was just wondering how you made the decision to add additional vitamins.

All my vitamins were recommended by my peri aside from the Omega 3. The Omega 3 my hubby and I decided would be good for the kids. My OB said a prenatal was enough but the PERI did not agree. He stated a twin pregnancy is not to be treated the same as a singleton pregnancy. At my first appointment I was given a list of all I needed to take. The fiber was added in the 3rd trimester as apparently it is most important then. :)
