My boys were born at 31 weeks. They are now 3 months, but are they 1 month? I am feeding them 3 oz every three hours. They are clock work at three hours. 90% of the time they both scream when i feed them it takes forever. They eat great if they are still asleep. Most of the time they will not eat more than 2 1/2 oz. there weight is around 11 and 9 lbs. When will they start to eat more and going longer between feedings? I am afraid sometime they are not getting enough. Any advice?

Their actual age would be 3 months old and their adjusted age is 1 month old. Usually Dr's adjust their age until they are 2 unless they catch up sooner. We used their adjusted age for feeding/sleeping schedules until they were about 6 month actual I believe. Good Luck!

Yes, their adjusted age would be 1 month. :good: It sounds like they are getting enough and their weights sound pretty good. My two ate 3 oz for a while and they were on a 3 hour schedule (during the day) until they were older, maybe 10/11 months. Now you say they are screaming when you are feeding them... do they also arch their back? Does it sound like they are in pain? I know my son did that and he had reflux. I would give your doctor a call if they continue to scream while eating. They might not be spitting up alot or vomitting but it could be silent reflux. Good luck.

I agree that the screaming could be a sign of reflux. Do they spit up? Is it sour smelling or chunky? Do they grimace when they burp or spit up like it's burning? If so I would definetly talk to the dr about reflux.

Otherwise they'll let you know when they are ready to eat more. When they start consistently draining their bottles and cry for more, it's time to up it to 4 oz :) As for time between feedings, that really varies from kid to kid, some will go 4 hrs from the start (like my first son), and some stick with 2-3 hrs for a long time.

My girls are still eating on a 3 hour feeding schedule during the days. I think they'll probably be eating every 3 hours until we add baby food and start "real" mealtimes. One of my daughters fought her bottles for a while and it ended up being reflux - we had to start her on zantac - which really helped. They should be "enjoying " their bottles. Souns like they are gaining great weight!

I can't remember how much the boys were eating at that time, but I'm pretty sure if was 3oz or less. My boys wouldn't eat much and even when we went to every 4hrs, they still didn't eat much. Talk to your doctor about their growth chart. As long as they are following their own growth curve, they are fine. My 33weekers were on their own curve until about 6 months when they finally joined the "normal" chart and were in the 3rd % for weight.

I would talk to your Ped about the screaming during eating. That is a sign of reflux, especially if they eat better when they are sleeping. That is also very common with reflux babies.
