My mother-in-law came over with a bag of clothes for the babies when we found out we were having boys. A lot of the outfits are premie. I don't know whether the babies will fit into them and if it is worth it. The doctor estimates that they will be 5 or 6 lbs. Did anyone by premie clothes or use them? I bought some newborn outfits.

I bought a few premie outfits for each of the babies. My other two boys were 6lbs. 12oz. and 6lbs. 13 oz. and they both fit in premie clothes. I even used premie diapers on them at first. So I bought 1 pack of premie diapers and a pack of newborn. If I need more premie dh can go and get them.

I remember getting really frustrated because we kept receiving preemie outfits. Not ungracious, just frustrated. WHY??? I have no idea. After all, I was on hospital bedrest at the time and stayed there for 8 weeks, but for some reason I was so positive I would have no use for them (cally it preggy brain...or denial!!). At 34w6d, mine were 4lb8oz and 5lb9oz and i was SO glad for those preemie clothes! Not only that, but I had to go and buy a few more because I didn't have enough to cover all the diaper blow outs and spitups etc!!

So my vote...take the preemie clothes and keep the tags/receipts. You can always return/exchange them (obviously don't wash first) if they don't work out. Even full term singleton moms say that 0-3 seemed huge on their 7-8lb babies, so I'm sure you'll find use for them :)

My girls were born at 34w5d and both weighed 5lb5ounces. We had gotten maybe 2 preemie outfits at our shower. Brooke came home the day after I did and I did use preemie clothes for her for about a month, I had to go out and get more, then she grew out of them. We had bought 1 package of preemie diapers and then went to the next size up for Brooke. Natalie was in the nicu for 6 weeks, they let us bring in sleepers for her to wear and most of those that we brought in were newborn size. She did drop down into the 4lb range when she was in the nicu, but we still put her in the newborn size just because it was easier to take them on and off with the wires, etc. By the time she came home she was in 0-3 size clothes. They grow out of the clothes so fast!

I would keep the bag for now, but don't wash them just yet.

I never even knew preemie clothes existed (I do not like shopping one iota) until MIL was troubled by how poorly anything fit. She bought one outfit for each baby to see how they would fit, they were perfect so she bought more. I was very thankful to have clothes that fit them. I think most of them were good until about 8 pounds or so which gave us quite a bit of use. I then packed them up and passed them along to another mom with low birth weight babies. I definitely found them useful.

The girls were 4.5 and 4.11 born at 35 weeks 5 days. They were in preemie clothes for about 1 month. I say keep them - it is really hard to find them if you need them! If you don't end up needing them you can donate them or return them. I wouldn't buy a ton though.

    Congrats!!!

We did not have any preemie clothes, but we did have some newborn sized clothes from Baby Gap and Carters (I think they go up to 7 pounds). They were too big on them those first few weeks, but they grew into them fast enough! Hannah weighed 4 lbs 10 oz and Ben weighed 5 lbs 15 oz. EVERYTHING was big on them for awhile! They mostly wore gowns and were swaddled around the clock that first month, so I really did not need to/want to rush out and buy preemie clothes.

BUT...if someone gave me preemie clothes, I would have graciously accepted them and used them!!!

I plan on buying a few at least. My son was 8lbs 11ozs when he was born and most 0-3 month colthes were way to big!

I would have at least 2 sets of preemie clothes just in case so you can cloth them until you can buy more if they are that small both walmart and family dollar have affordable preemie outfits

I'm kicking myself right now for not buying preemie clothes when I saw them. We didn't want to buy a bunch and not need them and since we thought I would make it further than I did we didn't get any. Now I have a 3 pound 12.6 oz son and can't find any preemie clothes or the ones I find look the same size as a 3-6 month outfit. I would say get a few, keep the tags on them and if you don't need them take em back.

My singleton pg I gained 20 pounds and thought I was having a small baby. Bought all small clothes. He weighed 9 pounds. Returned all the small clothes. Now I'm having twins so I had to go out and buy newborn size clothes just 2 weeks ago. Then I was recently diagnosed with vasa previa and told I would be delivering between week 34 & 35 so the babies are going to be preemies. Been on bedrest so haven't been able to buy any preemie stuff. My shower is tomorrow and I told everyone to buy me preemie stuff since I have none and couldn't even register for any. I would go to a consignment store but I'm not really getting out much and I go on hospital bedrest Monday so no chance now. I'm going to hold off on washing anything just in case we don't need as many as I receive plus I won't be home to do the washing.

I didn't get any preemie clothes before delivery but after the twins were born at 3 lb 8oz and 4 lb 8 oz my mom and best friend went out and bought me a bunch...Wal-Mart's preemie clothes are very affordable and very useful - DD used them for at least a month and a half and DS for a month...they were nice for when we took them in public - they didn't look quite so frumpy

My granddaughters were born at 36 weeks weighing 5# 2oz and 5# 3 oz. No one was prepared. They had hardly any clothes that would fit. Everything was gigantuous on them. At 5 months now and 13# 4 oz and 12# 8 oz they can still fit in the preemie items that do not have feet- such as dresses, shorts. I wouldnt buy a lot of new stuff. Ebay has great preemie auctions. That's where I went to get stuff to fit my grand-daughters. Gerbers newborn onsies run small so those will work too.

When DD was born...she weighed 5lb 13ozs....at 38.5wks too. She was a peanut, and definetly needed premie clothes. My dad and step-mom went and bought some when I was still in the hospital so she had something to come home in.

They are predicting my girls to be even smaller, so I need to go through her premie clothes and possibly buy some. I have already received premie diapers from my shower.

I find it depends on who's making the preemie clothes. There are clothes that claim to be premmie but are more like 0-3 which a wayyyy to big. I have a few left over from my son, and have gotten a few off ebay.
I suppose it depends on your family history of baby sizes, and how your prengnacy is going.
