Everything that I have read suggests that a baby is considered premature if born before 37 weeks. My daughter, Hannah, was born at 35 weeks, and I did consider her to be a preemie.

My guys were born at 35 weeks, 4 days, too! The doctors considered them preemies, and I did as well.

Mine were born at 36 weeks and 6 days and are considered preemies. The 1 day makes a difference apaprently. Mine were both great at birth and came home with us. :)

My girls were born at 35 wks and we still consider them preemie... althought they tip the scales in the 75th percetile of "normal" 5 month olds!

agree with pp. definitly a preemie, though MD said they really should be all caught up by a year or so (vs. a "younger" premie who might take up to 2)

yup, anything before 37wks is premature. A lot of people overlook "late preemies" but they are still preemies and certain preemie issues still have to be considered.

Mine were born at 35 wks exactly and are preemies. They were in the hospital for 3 wks and didn't nurse well till 40 wks.
They're on schedule for the most part now, though and perfectly healthy!

Keep 'em in as long as you can!

My OB considered twins as "term" at 34 weeks. In my mind, they are still so tiny and early that I would consider them preemies. HOWEVER, if you are getting sick of everyone talking about your babies being early and want to emphasize the fact that you had a very successful twin pregnancy, thankyouverymuch, then I wouldn't hesitate to say that some doctors consider 34 weeks to be term for twins and that you are proud you carried your babies as long as you did.

I guess technically my 36 weekers were "preemies" but I (in my mind anyway) don't consider them as such (and neither does the pedi)
