Pregnant with an IUD?

At my 6 week post-pardum appt, I had the Merena IUD "installed" if you will. I had a lot of bleeding still for several weeks, then I began to get "normal" periods, but for the last two months, nothing at all. I know this can be normal with the IUD, but I'm having other strange behaviors. Mood swings and fatigue to rival my twin pregnancy. My tummy has become extremely sensitive. Overall, just weird sensations in my belly. So I'm thinking that either I'm pregnant, or I have an inoperable tumor that is taking over my body. :drown: I took a test a couple months ago, but it was negative. DH even asked me the other day "when was the last time you took a pregnancy test?"

I know I need to go get one and will do that today, but I'm on pins and needles until I have the chance. I know there's someone on this board who's gotten pregnant with an IUD and I'm hoping she'll find this post to let me know if her story was similar. :help:

FWIW, I would love to have another baby, but DH might just go play in traffic if I was pregnant at this point. this could get dicey!

My friend got pregnant with her IUD, everything went well for her. Once she found out she went to her DR and had it removed with no problem and had a healthy uneventful pregnancy. Best of luck

It can definitely happen -- but if the Mirena is one of the hormone ones (I don't know if it is), those can make you feel pregnant. I haven't had an IUD, but I was on some Seasonale for a few months after my girls were born, and I was convinced I was pregnant. I also had a negative pregnancy test (and it was extremely unlikely anyway), but I didn't even believe it because I felt soooo pregnant. And it didn't happen the first month on the pill, it was like the 3rd month.

So, if I were you I'd take a pg test, but also ask your doctor if this is normal for the kind of IUD you have. GL!

So, the at home test was negative. I still feel weird though. Who knows? Called the OB and they said to make an appt if I don't get my period next month.

    Megan, you are too funny.

Nadana! How are you??? Still pregnant and doing well? Can't wait to hear about the new baby in a few weeks!

I just talked with my doctor today at my 37 week ob appt about getting the copper IUD at my 6 week check-up.
She said she has put in HUNDREDS and she's only ever had 1 woman get pregnant and it was because she wasn't checking her strings diligently.
The woman's IUD had fallen out and she didnt notice.

    How are your strings??

Also just out of curiosity are you by chance nursing? Im a nursing mama and will be again when I have this baby. I asked about the copper because I know it doesnt have hormones and she said even with nursing I could do the mirena if I wanted, I just wasnt sure what people have experienced on it.

I have heard of women getting preggo with the Mirena in place. I would go get a test from the Dr. if you still haven't started after a few days. When I went back on the pill after having my copper IUD removed I constantly thought I was pregnant because the darn things made me feel so freakin' sick, it was like having non stop morning sickness. After trying a few different types I told DH I was DONE! So it could just be your pills. I hope you get the result you want! :)

    Hey Danielle,
Yes I'm still hanging in there and my c-section is sched for this Tues the 10th! I'm scared not knowing how the twins are going to react to a new baby.
Your girls are getting sooo big & I can't believe they are almost one! I can remember this time last year when you were in the hospital.
I hope you get all this mirena stuff worked out and I wish you all the best of luck :)
Take Care & Talk you soon!

With the boys, I learned the hard way that the pill and breastfeeding did not work for me. Fortunately, I'd only been on the pill for like 2 weeks before I noticed the problem and stopped without long term adverse effects to bfing.

With baby girl, I got the Mirena at 6 weeks pp and noticed no issues with bfing at all.
