Hi. My boys are 22 months and I am seven weeks pregnant. My belly really seems to be growing at a rapid rate. What are my chances of having twins again? My twins were naturally concieved. Also my belly is sooo big already, is this normal for a second pregnancy or maybe I'm having twins again??? Having a scan next week and I'm very nervous.

    Congratulations!

I don't know the exact chances but I do know for me my chances increase with age if I were to get pregnant again.

Come on over to the Expecting Forum, we have several members currently expecting a singleton after their twins (although maybe you are not [IMG]) and we would love to have you join us!

Although your risk for twins is higher because you've had them before, it's still a pretty small chance. Yes, the belly does grow more quickly after the first pregnancy since you're kind-of stretched out already (at least I am [IMG]). You'll know for sure when you get your scan. Try not to be nervous. It's really unlikely that you're having twins again. Good luck!

My belly did grow faster with my second pg...and it was twins.. ha ha.. we are currently ttc #4...and I've done lots of research on our odds to conceive twins again..the best odds I've seen are 1/5 chance....some places say 1/12...others even less than that. 1/5 sounds like a lot...but when you look at it from the perpective that you have a 4/5 chance of having a singleton it seems much more likely to have just one. Putting this in percentages...you have a 20% chance of having twins..but an 80% chance of having a singleon... and those are the BEST odds for reoccuring twins that I have found...most sources say the odds are closer to 10% for having twins again...and of course this is frat twins...id. twins reoccuring are somewhere around 1/70,000....

I'm 16 weeks pregnant right now with a singleton and I am HUGE. Bigger than I was at this point with the boys.

My uterus is already PAST my belly button!

I chalk it up to only having my boys a little over a year ago and having no ab muscles anymore!!

At least I hope that's what it is. I read a post the large families forum where someone posted about missing the second baby at the first ultrasound and then finding it at the 20 week one!!

I was WAY bigger with this singleton than I was with the boys. Granted, I only got to 25 wks with the twins, but even at 16 wks I was huge compared to when I was there with the twins. At 20 wks I was bigger with this one than I ever even got with the twins. Keep us posted and CONGRATS!!!

This is very true. With my singleton pregnancy, I measured 15 weeks at my 10 week appointment!!!!

Knowing this actually makes me feel so much better. I was getting worried that something might be wrong because I was too big. I'm about the same size now as I was with the twins at around 20-24 weeks.

Mind you, i didn't exactly lose all of the weight I gained with them so I have an extra layer of fat to push my belly out even more this time [IMG]

CONGRATS! My boys are also 22 months and I am 8 weeks pregnant. I think your chances are about 20% of having another set.

I already had a scan and am expecting just one! But, of course, I look about 12 weeks pregnant and am going to have to start with maternity clothes soon. I think you show alot sooner with second or 3rd babies...

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I had a scan and I am pregnant with a singleton!!! YAY!!!
Really looking forward to enjoying a little one on one with a baby.
I thought I could hold out till 12 weeks to tell friends and family but my waistline is growing everyday, especially the evenings.

    congrats,
I had a singleton 5 months ago, and my tummy grew huge the second time around too.
I was into my mat clothes at around 7 weeks and was convinced that I was having twins again because all of my twin symptoms were back (puking, heartburn, bloat & extreme hunger)
Also my granny had 2 sets of twins and a set of triplets, so I really felt it was 2 again~ but no just 1 big boy.
He ended up weighing 1 lb bigger than my girls together and he was even 2 weeks early! I even got hemmroids because of all the pressure-and didn't get them with the twins.
So basically you never know, but I'll tell ya having 1 after twins is so nice...I love not having to divide my attention all the time.
Good luck with everything and can't wait to hear if it's 1 or 2!
    Cheers, Pam
