    Hello everyone,

I miscarried twins about 2 weeks ago. When I get pregnant again, what are the odds of having twins again?

There are no twins in my family, but they are heavy in my husband's family.

    Thanks for any comments

I'm sorry for your loss... I think they link fraternal twinning to the moms side because it has to do with how many eggs are released at ovulation. Identical twins are totally random and not supposedly linked to anything genetic. Someone else here I'm sure could give you more info. Good luck and again I'm sorry for your loss... :hug99:

I'm so sorry! Your chances of getting pregnant again vary depending on whether you were pregnant with fraternal or identical twins. If they were fraternal, your chances go way up (I can't remember the statistics, but it is significant!) Since identical twins are completely random, your chances are the same as anyone else's. Good luck!! :love0028:

Sorry for your loss too. Agree with the others, since you didn't know what type of twins they were, you can't say for sure. But with fraternals your chances are definitely higher.

Good luck, hang in there, I've been there, it's hard ...

Let me just say how sorry I am for your loss. I had fraternal girl twins last year at 21 weeks and they were stillborn. We got pregnant in November about 4 months after our loss. In December we found out that we were pregnant but didn't find out that it was twins again until February. This time we know that one is a boy and we will hopefully find out what Twin A is next week. I am almost positive that Twin A is a girl, which would be fraternal twins again. My doctor doesn't have any kind of odds on getting pregnant with twins twice naturally, but I would have to say I think it is quite possible.

sorry for you loss but on the bright side I did have an early twin m/c before my boys. I have twins in every generation on my mom's side and I am pretty certain that if I were to get pregnant again I would be shocked if there was only one. I did wait 6 months after the m/c just because I think BC pills had alot to do with the first m/c since I got pregnant two weeks after stopping them. GL!

So sorry too. I have heard that some people who misscarry do get PG with twins. But that is really just hear say. Also your husbands twin family history will have no bearing on wether you concieve twins.

    Thanks for all your comments.

Actually jasonsmommy - there have been studies that show that fraternal twins must run in the mother's family, but new studies are showing identical twins could come from the father's side of the family (something in the sperm that makes the egg split)

Do you have a source you could post for this? I have never heard of this. And yes, Frats run in the mothers family. The ability to produce and release more than one egg is passed down through the female.

I have also heard that theory out there about the male's sperm...and it does seem to be supported by some anectdotal evidence you hear. But it's still just a theory and there isn't a whole lot of proof for it. All the same, I have heard that it's more likely to conceive twins after any m/c whether or not there were twins involved prior.

There are absolutely no twins in my family. I used clomid to shorten my cycles and got pg with twins. What a shock! However, I m/c'd one twin between 9-11 weeks, the other twin was fine. I asked our dr about our chances of twins again when we were ready to TTC. He said our chances did go up if we used clomid since we had already had a twin pg. We decided not to use clomid because we couldn't afford any more than 2 kids. Well ... I got pg again with twins and they will be turning 1 on St. Patrick's Day. It has been the most awesome experience ever! I guess some things are just meant to be even if you don't realize it yet -

I'm very sorry for your loss :(
